Is it too much to ask???

So recently a fitness spokesperson by the name of maria kang posted this on her facebook page:
    Along with this statement:
"The popular and unrelenting support received to those who are borderline obese (not just 30 to 40 lbs overweight) frustrates me as a fitness advocate who intimately understands how poor health negatively effects a family, a community and a nation,"

Shortly after her comments went viral facebook shut down her profile, eventually reinstating it but permanently removing her comments saying that they constituted "hate speech".

In response, several bloggers and columnists have taken to posting their own miniature parodies of kang's original photo as a means of expressing their distaste for kang's stance

So I get it ladies, you've all got your reasons why you can't be maria kang, but is it really so much to ask you to at least make yourself presentable?

Facebook is retarded. My gf posted a contradiction that Obama made Durring his campaign and term and Facebook removed her comments and warned her because someone complained

No, everyone can not achieve that physique. I think her statement was in poor taste. The something goes for the Bombshell Team. Their ideaology is narrow minded and their statements are hurtful to many. The reason I say that it because I have PCOS and without proper medical treatment I would in fact be heavy. I had to get off all of my medications and in six weeks I gained 15 lbs. I needed to do it because of testing because I need a different treatment for BHRT. 20 percent of women have PCOS and think of how many never went for treatment... Diet and exercise will ne we get them that physique. I realized I needed a new treatment during my contest prep. I'm still dieting and working out and I cant lode weight at all and if I cut down my calories too much I physically get sick. I have to be on medication. Basically, no not everyone can achieve that.

But she's not even talking about people who want to compete. She's talkin about borderline obese people and those who continue to support them.

Sure some people have medical issues that can cause them to be overweight but for fvcks sake they don't have to weigh 300lbs

Electra genetics are a factor obviously and she probably is arrogant. My biggest issue is with women who are simply content with being unhealthy. You say you have PCOS, you identified it and took steps in a healthier direction. You're striving to improve yourself. So again, is it really too much to ask that more women adopt your attitude?

I agree with you in regards to the desire to look that way vs. A medical issue but to play devils advocate what about the people who think were freaks. I had a group of females out at a bar tell me my legs look manly it's disgusting. I love my legs and how they look. I'm proud of that work. In their view it's nasty. There may in fact be obese people who want to look that way. I support them, because I dobt want people telling me how to look because I like muscle and now I want more of it.

True. Remember, in this day and age "everyone gets a trophy" just for showing up. Opinions are not allowed unless politically correct.

Don't you think the obese people that say they want to look that way use that as a cop out to stay lazy?

I don't think any human could actually be happy being 100lbs overweight and unhealthy.

That's because I was really unhealthy and it was effectiving every aspect of my life I had to. Then I fell in love with weight lifting and I'm the type of person that I always want more. That's just who I am. Many females are not like that.

Yes, on the flip side people may ask if I'm happy with the way I look with muscle. I do like it. Some people it will be a cop out and others will really like it. I'm not in their brain to see how their psychological make. Up developed so Idk why they like it but if they are happy or convinced themselves of that so be it lol

Can't say for certain, but nobody can be HAPPY wheezing and exhausted just going about their daily routine (as many Americans are today, especially in the south where I'm from)

Exactly... I've been off hrt for 6 weeks and my body has changed so fast, my energy is depleted and I feel like my feminity is depleted. It's not easy. I'm so happy that on the 10th I finally go on a new regimen but it's still mentally, emotionally and physically taxing. It makes me realize how much compassion I need to have for people. For a while I forgot what I dealt with and I had themat well I overcame this their lazy. Now in the past six weeks I've really thought about how narrow minded I became and that disgusted me.

I don't know, I do think that FB can take things out of context and unjustifyably interfere, but that's their call.

For example, I've heard the 'what's your excuse' tagline before as it relates to fitness classes such as soldier fit or the like. So, is it 'hate speach' when this is being utilized on the free market, or is it freedom of speach (whatever the hell that means anymore)?

Also, I'm perplexed as to what 'popular and unrelenting support' obese people get.. what exactly does that mean? Was she simply making this statement as an advertising campaign designed to make people think and realize that they can actually engage in a fitness regimine even with three kids, for example?

Maria has some great genetics going for her no doubt. Good for her!!! . Part of the controversy included backlash from mommies declaring she was neglecting her responsibly of parenting 3 young boys. Neanderthal. We all have 24 hrs daily. How u chose to spend your time is not my concern nor anyone else's.

What troubles me is ppl want others to care for them when they don't care for themselves.

That's nice to hear. As far as I can tell, the whole thing is about judgmentalism (except for facebook censoring people, that's just stupid facebook). Maria Kang judges people who aren't like her, the girls who made the responses are expressing their annoyance at her judgmentalism. Some people here are judgmental about fat, other people are judgmental towards Electra's and others' muscles.

In the end, whether or not someone could achieve the body of Maria Kang completely misses the point. Lots of people who don't a body like hers just don't care about stuff like that, or think it is not worth any bother to look like her. They just don't value their lives in the same way. She clearly spends a lot of time working on her body. Good for her; I support her right to value her time in the way she sees fit.

I have a friend who is borderline obese who spends a lot of time volunteering at schools in third world countries. Maybe she thinks helping poor children is a more important use of her time than working out, I don't know, but I don't understand why that is an issue at all. It's her body, her life, why should other people know better than her how she ought to value the time and energy in her life? Should she have to spend time in her life making herself presentable to people on the internet that she doesn't give a shit about, so she looks to be more in line with their values? ("is it too much to ask?" for women to make themselves presentable to others if they are going to post their photo online - the answer is those women don't care about whether you asking those sorts of things from them, nor should they.)

There is an extreme form of political correctness going around that has to do with healthiness. People think they can be judgmental because healthiness is currently the apotheosis of existence. And so people feel free to judge others in this way. And only is people have medical issues is it acceptable to deviate from the ideal. And of course this also manifests in terms of people making comments about the bodies of Electra and many others here that I have seen. It's just unacceptable, and more to the point, it's no one's business what you decide your body is going to look like. If people don't like it, they can avert their gaze, or click on another link.

The way I see it is that Maria Kang's poster is only offensive to those who are deep down ashamed of their appearance. And more so, they're ashamed of the fact that they're too lazy to even make a notable attempt at changing it. To somebody who doesn't give a shit about how they look, Maria's poster would've just been ignored entirely. How could she motivate or offend somebody who doesn't give a shit about it one way or another?

Now, most women are not going to look like a fitness model no matter how hard they try nor are most men going to look like they can rival Phil Heath on stage regardless of diet/training/gear they do. But that's also not really the reason people should diet and exercise. It's simply to look, feel and be the best that we can be. It's to be better than we were last week and to strive to be even better next week. Maria Kang in her way was just trying to say "if you deep down are ashamed with how you look, why don't you at least try to improve yourself?"

But like I said, some people don't give a flying fvck if they look like hogs or not. So what Maria or anybody else said wouldn't bother them one way or another.

    Angel,
I come from the most obese state in the USA, internet be damned these women need to make themselves presentable for society. I've known some ladies who were self conscious, I've known some who didn't care in the least. Bottom line is if they have the right to be apathetic and obese, I have the right to judgmental and unsympathetic.

allot of my family members are obese and every single one of them is fat because they eat junk, sit on the computer all day long and play games, no exercise whatsoever. I don't see what's so offensive about her comment, just because truth hurts it doesn't mean what she said is hateful! geeeeze, face book is retarded for removing her comments, there are far more hateful comments made on the net and no one gives a shit. a beautiful mom of three makes a constructive comment and she is the devil now! if the fat ones want to stay fat that's their life, their loss, but she is the winner in my view.

for the record, my wife gave birth to 10 children and 7 miscarriages, today she is 54 and weighs 125 lbs. no its not genetics, she can be fat if she lets go, but she eats rights, goes to the gym every morning and absolutely loves it. unfortunately these days most fat people use diseases as an excuse, yes there are people with health issues but not 50% of the population for God's sake!

I hate unhealthy people. They make healthcare costs expensive. Think about it. People eat and live healthy lives, they require less medicine/health care, doctors would charge less because of supply and demand, then when the healthy people do need some health care, it won't cost and arm and a leg.

What does this statement even mean? "What's your excuse?" Am I too understand that a personal trainer and fitness model who have it as a job to look good should be compared to a random office or store clerk? Why could the message not have been something positive like "You can do it!" or "I believe in you!". This message is just about as intelligent as if my wife would post a picture of her in a lab coat with published articles in Nature magazine with our daughter in front asking everyone else "What's your excuse?". Does that mean everyone who is not a famous scientist is a loser?
