How do you like your steak cooked?
How do you like your steak cooked?
Went to Fleming's last night with a friend. We both ordered the ribeye steak. Fleming's steaks are pretty incredible for a large chain restaurant. I ordered mine rare, as usual. She orders hers well done. I know it's not my steak and I did a good job holding back, but it really mind boggles me. Why would anyone destroy a $50 steak by cooking the living crap out of it? I don't get it.
I guess it doesn't matter since I'm not eating it. Still though, feels like a waste! I'm not saying go rare, but dang! Not well done!Last edited by austinite; 12-01-2013 at 08:30 AM.

^^ my sentiment exactly! have a friend who is the exact same way. dont get it.
i do, however, alternate between medium rare and medium. ive found medium rare sometimes leaves these little white chewy things that cant be chewed up. i really dont like this. as a result i switched to medium and the white things are gone.
some very good cut of filet does not have the white things at med rare, but a lot of them do. i used to eat only filet, but have branched out to the ribeye, which i get medium rare.

BTW have u been to Ruth's Chris? if u havent had their cowboy ribeye (22oz) u really should go and get iot. they cook it at 1800 degrees or something like that. man it is the best restaurant steak ive ever had!

Yes. Ruth's Chris is good. We have a local place called Eddie V's, probably the best steak ever. Also Bartletts (formerly Houston's) is good.

I can't tell the difference between medium well, medium, or medium rare. They all look half cooked to me

I go for in between medium rare and medium. But I chose medium.
My bulk steak is ribeye and my lean obvious sirloin.
The best is filet mignon....but that's for rich people not country hicks like me...lol

Two different restaurants we servered two people. One guy eats 14oz filet raw and ice cold.
Other actually shared a delmonico raw with his 12 yo daughter. They ate fat and all.

I have yet to eat a restaurant steak that compares to the perfectly done, medium rare steak my wife grills. She is a friggin magician with a grill!

Nice, yeah they're a bit pricey. I'm due for a new grill. I think I'll get one after xmas when the prices go down.
another thing is that the egg takes a while to heat up.. like 20 mins. I like to fire it up and get that meat on there without waiting. The way it cooks though is so good.. nice and even and meat comes out perfect.

This is the grill I have..... Can't even think of something to complain about. It's a fantastic grill and cooks evenly..... The smoker works like a charm. It can blow through fuel if u use all the burners but that's to be expected.
