night time sleep meds.
Would using something like z-quil (a non habit forming sleep aid) cause an adverse effect on building muscle? Sometimes I have a difficult time sleeping and I would think the advantage of getting a good night's sleep would out weigh any of the negatives.

Z quil still has alcohol.
+1 foe melatonin. I personally only need 1mg a night. I'd suggest starting at a low dose. A lot of people take 5mg and some take 10mg. But if I take 2mg I'm groggy the next morning. We all react differently

Magnesium works for me and that's what I recommend everyone takes an hour before bed. 400mg of magnesium orotate or citrate. If that doesn't work, add 3mg of melatonin.

Not recreational - medicinal
Just for sleep, it helps a lot while running gear that messes with my sleep pattern.

I have never even tried ambien since I get addicted to everything.
Don't need another thing to add to the list
But, I have heard some good stories so far

Yeah dont believe the BS about it not being addictive. It may not be chemically addictive but it is physically since you know you can take one and 15 minutes later you are out.
Oh yeah it's SO much fun to watch someone who has taken one and not gone to sleep or to wake them up shortly after. Every story I have heard about women and from my own experience is they loose ALL inhibitions and will do anything you want or suggest and even come up with some of their own ideas. It's a STRONG aphrodisiac. They all become very sexual and aggressive.

With work on my mind I always have trouble falling asleep. Problem with OTC Sleep Aids is most contain Diphenhydramine HCl which loses effectiveness after continued use. Costco Kirkland brand has a Sleep Aid that contains Doxylamine Succinate which works better and doesnt lose effectiveness. Good luck...

I was on a plane one time. These two college age young ladies behind me were talking about their experiences while on Ambian. They were using like some kind of rec drug? And they were describing some kind of date rape, although they seemed to pain the picture in some weird kind of positive light. Weird!

I took Ambien for about 2 months. It was the worst 2 months of my life. My sleep was worse on the stuff, but the doc said it would get better, it didn't. I began to hallucinate during non-sleep times. I also had waking dreams - I would wake up and things from my dreams were still there. Sometimes it was comical, sometimes it was frightening, but I was aware they were not real. It also caused some really crazy sleep walking episodes, though I'm prone to that on my own. I drove my truck about 20 miles away from my house and woke up walking behind it as it was idling down the side of the highway with my door open. I'd also woken up a few times inches away from my front door fists up in the air like I'm shaking fists and yelling at someone. I'd regularly wake up in my bed already sitting up babbling incoherently, remembering my dreams talking to friends and things, it made sense.
If you have any sleep problems besides not being able to sleep, I'd advise you to stay away from the sleep drugs beyond natural things like what austinite suggested.

Ambien is the best drug ever! I love it. I can say that "sometimes" when my wife takes it things can get quite frisky. Not all the time but sometimes. It can make some people get up and eat at night, or if your in Congress or a Kennedy, you might drive on it.
Diphenhydramine is Benadryl

Oh Sh*t they knew I had given them ambien? Oh wait, you said college age right? Never mind....
I wonder how many people here have tried ambien just because of the stories I have told in the past. I started talking about ambien and the effect on woman several years ago.
I woke up once with 3/4 of a bag (Costco size) of Cheetos SMASHED all over my face, shirt and lap. I was sitting on the couch getting ready to go to bed when I did the head bob and saw Cheetos everywhere. All I could do was brush off and go get the vacuum.

The best drug I have found for sleep, with the least amount of side effects is Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate). It is in a class of drugs called Atypical Anti-psychotics, and it's FDA approved uses are for Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, and Major Depressive Disorder. However, at what are considered sub-therapeutic doses for the above named conditions, it is an INCREDIBLE 'Off-Label' sleep-aid. It has considerably less side effects than Ambien, and it gives a very very well rested sleep. Don't let the stigma of the drugs intended purpose throw you off, there are a host of medications with one purpose, who just so happen to attenuate other conditions very well. You all may be surprised to know that Ambien (Zolpidem) has an off-label use of causing cognitive improvement of patients with severe brain damage, and even those in a vegetative state. Also in my opinion, the side effects and dangers with Ambien far outweigh its minimal benefits. Hallucinations and sleep-walking are common, and my friend split his Mercedes literally in half around a pole while on the drug. Speak to your physician about Seroquel for off-label insomnia treatment...
