Planet Fitness Removes Squat Racks for Being Intimidating. WTF?
Did anyone see this?
America a bunch of Pvssies?
Planet Fitness regularly touts how it’s not like all the other gyms and encourages soft people to indulge in its purple haze of mediocrity. And now they’re taking it one step further: Getting rid of squat racks for being “intimidating.”
Flickr/Nicholas Eckhart
Redditor Kalerad posted his problem with Planet Fitness’s overly all-inclusive philosophy on the site’s Fitness subsection.
“I walked in noticing the outline of dust on the floor where the squat rack once stood. I was heartbroken. Especially since I had just recently found a love for squatting.
“I of course had to ask an employee “WTF?” He regretfully told me that a few days prior corporate came in and removed it because ‘a customer complained that it was intimidating.’”
The move is one of many — along with offering free pizza and bagels and tanning beds — to lure in the casual gym goer who might be turned off by gyms being a little too “fitness oriented.”
Either way, if you want to do serious workouts at any point in your life, make sure to avoid Planet Fitness. And if you’re the type of person who’s intimidated by a series of metal rods that make people stronger and healthier, we’re probably all better off if you remove yourself from society’s gene pool.
PS Planet Fitness also hates hot women. Burn them down.

and maybe they should get rid of those pesky weight benches.......
..........by doing so, that should open up enough room for a few tables so they can serve beer and pizza?

A friend of mine who is working on her pro card as a bikini competitor works out at one. I was in between gyms at the time and went there with her to "try it out". Smith machine city. Not one rack or barbell bench. Dumbbells went up to 75. But the worst part was the atmosphere.
We traveled together once and worked out at a different one. This one at least has a barbell bench.
They're cool with me though. They keep the slackers off the equipment at my gym.

It's about marketing, not about "real" fitness
I have to say, it is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.
But, the fact is they are making serious $
And the question is; are people this stupid? We know the answer since pf is making bank
People are so dumb when it even comes to the terms like diet & fitness

which sort of members do they make more money from?
1: serious lifters who take up their floor space 5-7 times a week.
2: people with new year resolution who pays the whole year membership but never turn up more than twice

I had no choice of gyms the other night so I went to a snap fitness next to my hotel . I noticed none of the cable machines had the weight marked just numbered 1-10 so out of curiosity I asked the "manager" and she told me it was not a competition here so we don't care how much weight people lift.
Then she proceeded to explain that they don't want an intimidating workout environment for people.

There are a lot of "fitness centers" removing racks. It's a major liability that many don't want the hassle of having.

Fitness in "our" society is becoming more & more of a joke
The only positive I see from this myself, is that now everyone thinks I am pro bodybuilder. I say WTF are they talking about. . . . . But, look at the average middle aged guy.
The US is the first one & looks fairly accurate. Which makes me something close to a super hero. I'll stay on sauce for life before I resemble that guy.

I uses to have an app called GymFinder when I traveled. Pretty basic, but I was able to locate Gold's and a couple dungeons. Very helpful.

I find it hilarious that I can be an easy 15 pounds over weight and still be the best built guy down at the pool we go to.
Planet fitness is great for treadmills, ellipticals and for picking up chicks. I assume...never been .

That's all we ever need are slim fast shakes, p90x & a membership & PF
Uggggh, the shit that media feeds us.
Feeding straight crap to the masses to make a buck. That's business I guess

I'm a teacher. Teachers are fat. Currently half of them at my school are on some stupid diet(for the 10th time) and the other half have a PF membership. None of them look any different. A couple of them were asking me questions yesterday. Their eyes glazed over and lost interest when I suggested they google weightlifting routines for women. Not interested.

Same exact shit here
Random people always ask me weight loss BS. When I start talking, it's like talking into dead space. I just get blank stares - wtf do they expect me to say? Oh yes, some Dr Ozz BS. Eat some joo joo beans and you will lose 5 pounds a day.
Srsly, if you come across a person who lives in the semi close vicinity of a real gym, yet goes to PF - stop talking & walk away. There is nothing you will pass to someone who goes to a gym with a design following Barney.

Maybe they should ban weight lifters too?
Wouldn't want to intimidate the casual gym participant, now would we?
-
I think they kind of did that with the fact there are no free weights and there is a lunk alarm
The funny part is, this BS does work. I remember myself being the typical pile of crap when I started to lose weight at LA Fitness. I looked at the weight area as the dungeon testosterone room. It looked scary and intimidating - specially at the LA Fitness that I was going to, since it had all machined metal weights and quite a few decent sized guys and girls working out most of the time. I remember talking to a few girls in there, thinking WTF they're bigger than me.
It wasn't until I walked in there with my coworker who was a gym monster that I felt somewhat safe & it no longer looked so intimidating. From that point on I started lifting real free weights. And I realized it just doesn't matter what size or strength you are.
But, this is still a fact - guys and females even more, are intimidated by heavy looking weights and machines and people just don't know where to start.
Yet, with this bull shit purple Barney approach they hit the intimidated gym goer.
I went once to a PF with one of my friends. He's someone that I can't even talk fitness to. Asks me every time, "how am I lookin" - I try to be nice, sorta. Yet, he looks exactly the same as he did before ever joining.

People are intimidated but the ignorance. They think that all fit people are like that bully in school. They just don't realize that lifters help support others and are more than willing to share their knowledge if someone approaches with a serious intent of learning.
All I can say is don't feed into their stereotype and try to be the excellent person on the inside that you are striving to be on the outside. Break down the barriers, and sometimes you have to be a little harsh to let people know that their workout is actually worthless. I have my wife on a weight lifting regime after years of her killing herself on P90X. But, I had to prove that my body was improvinb by lifting first.
