opinions please suprise party or not

my father is turning 60 Saturday I've been going crazy lately vacations and work and have not planned anything. his wife said he didn't want anything but I think she's just being lazy.
I could throw a party but it will not be till the 7th of September the feedback I'm getting from her is she hopes it not a lame party or people don't come (screw her she can stay home) and my wife and sister are throwing crazy stuff out there.

Now do I say screw it throw the suprise party who cares what happens and I won't have any regrets of not doing anything or just have small thing and say to my self he won't of wanted one anyway?

The party would be almost a month after his actually birthday.

I dont like the idea of a part after the fact, it's just not the same. I would not try to do a surprise party, just a party. He is going to be 60, that's a big deal so start calling friends of his. Let them decide on presents, some will be serious, some the typical old person jokes but for sure do something.
