    Keloid scarring. Austinite, Bonaparte?

So last year i had a pilonidal abscess excision under general anestethic with a surgeon, year before that i only had an incision. Anyway, seems to have healed up fine but ive noticed some hardening around the wound and went to have it checked out yesterday by a GP, he told me everything is fine its just KELOID SCARRING. And its not infected, not reocurring which is my biggest worry and its just how it is, happens to some people they get this type of scaring.

Its just a bit tender thats all.

thoughts? Is keloid scarring fine? Am i just one of those guys that got it.? Is it anything to be worried about?

The scarring is quite thick and hard in comparison to other scaring that I have seen.

Over years & years time it seems to ease off.

Yes, that happens. Sometimes worse than others. Some folks end up with dangling, hardened chunks of skin back there. Those cases never go away without removal.

    Thanks mate.

Do I need to do anything about it?

I don't need to have surgery again do I?

Is it gonna cause any problems at all? Anything I should be worried about?

You'll be fine. After an excision, the chances of it coming back is close to zero. Personally I think an excision should always be done first since we know an incision leaves a 50%+ chance of re-occurrence.

Anyway, You don't need further surgery unless it's aesthetic. It's at the coccyx so who cares! Try not to sit in a hard chair for hours on end.
