    Anxiety

My wife suffers from pretty severe anxiety almost all the time. I was wondering if any of you have had a loved one find something to help alleviate it. I'm looking for more natural approaches/ supplements but if any of you can vouch for a good prescription or OTC drug I would go for that to.

    Thanks in advance.

Weight training. Seriously. I've had anxiety since I was a teen. Tried all the Benzos. They turned me into a clumsy forgetful clod. Tricyclics did nothing for me except horrible withdrawals that lasted months. Nothing OTC was worth a damn.

Lifting calms my nerves and takes my mind to that me vs. the weights zone. As long as I eat right and keep training my moods are stabilized.

Good luck. Anxiety is tough to deal with. Drugs are a temporary solution. They all lose their efficacy and then you have to go through withdrawal.

Has she been to a specialist to be diagnosed? Has she always been that way? Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder is common.....do you guys talk about what makes her anxious?

    Yeah - Me

Nothing is natural to me any more. . . . I try my best to lay of the Xanax. But, some times I have no choice

A buddy of mine refuses all scripts, we're both recovering from substance abuse. He has awful sleep patterns & relapsed twice. I use it as last resort when needed at night only.

In her case, it just depends on the severity.

I'm on 300 mg Effexor currently for depression/anxiety. It affects my sleep pretty bad, too.

Lifting, martial arts and (when possible) good sleep seem to help a lot.

If you ever come off Effexor, taper down over several months. I got down to 7.5mg and still got 'brain zaps' when I stopped taking it completely. Shaking too. Like Parkinson's only not as extreme. My doctor wasn't even aware that it had such withdrawal symptoms until I told him. I titrated the dosage down myself. I refused to be a slave to pharmaceuticals. Anxiety can be debilitating but when you're aware that you have it it's much easier to combat.

I have friends & family that require anxiety meds & there's nothing wrong with it. They're all responsible people & lead very productive lives. The real issue is having the condition & not doing something about it. Such matters need to addressed between your wife & her Doctor. OP shouldnt let his personal beliefs interfere in the process.

Only thing would be to make sure your life & health insurance is in order. An anxiety and/or depression diagnosis can cause higher premiums when you apply for such policies...

I would prefer something natural or over the counter but anything to help her and a doctor says is safe I would be fully supportive. We are covered by tricare so the premiums wouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the info.

She's just a bit anxious all the time and it gets worse almost at random. No real rhyme or reason unfortunately. We are seeing a really good doctor so I think it will help.

Yes, probably close to 70% of adults in the US are on some type of Anti-Anxiety Drug ? Xanax was scripted like M&M of the 90's and Dr's scripted them as a miricle drug with one small problem, Xanax life long for most with no positive effects after you no longer need them your body requires them. A life time decision almost like TRT except withdrawals are more dangerous and longer than for Opiates ! ! ! !

Another down side to Dr. Scripted Benzos is if you have a vehicle accident and someone is hurt severly ? They take your Blood work and you are charged with driving under the influnce ! What makes them so bad is they drain or cause your brain to stop producing Seratonin and BBAC ?

I was ran over by a truck in Oct. of 02 and told I would not live to see Christmas of 04 ! I HAD ANXIETY VERY BAD ! I had 6 yrs worth of operations and even still on Opiates and Xanax when I started TRT ! But about a year into TRT I was stronger and able to deal with less pain meds but I was addicied to 40mg of Oxycotin a day and 60mg of Oxtcodone scripted by the Dr. and my Xanax tolorance was so high from 2002 to 2013 that I had gone from 3 mg a day to 7 mg a day to not have the shakes and numb feet and finger (just some of the withdrawal effects of Benzos) not to mention ensominia and bad dreams! ! ! !

I went through hell and home detoxed off the opiates and when I got my feet back under me and training on only Ultram and Ibuprophen, I decided to try to taper off Xanax ?

This was a lot easier said than done !!!!!! I could not do it ! The with drawals from Xanax can last upto and over a year ? ? ? So the Ultram makes your seratonin levels increase in your brain and I supplement BBAC and have been under Dr. Supervision and take Colonapen 2 x's a day and only 1 mg of Xanax. The 1mg of xanax is not needed ever day but if I miss a dose of Clonopen I need the fast acting Xanax to prevent my feet and finger from going numb !

I also forund relif from withdrawls of benzos in lifting ? I may have traded on addiction for another, but I spend 3 hrs a day in the gym and that is more some days 2 + hours of Cardio and 2 body parts with 4 exercises each and 4 sets of 30 so it does take time and I feel stress free and feel good ! THEN PREP FOOD AND EAT MOST OF THE TIME ! I am 100% disabled and in order to train this much for every hour I tran I have to spend 2 flat of my back with my left leg elevated due to blood clots . When not preping food or eating or in the gym I am walking or bike riding or even paintballing + I train a GA. Freedom Fighters Militia group in the North GA Mtns.

So I said all that to say this yes ppl function seemingly fine on Benzos and you would never know they are taking them ! Your Dr. will script them if you ask ! They do work ! But it is a life time commentment with limitation on driving ? I actually just moved closer to my gym so I drive less and ride my bike more ! You will notice more when a person taking Benzos stops or misses a dose and they become more panic stricken than before they began use of the drug ?

Try to go to a homeopathic store and talk to the hippys and they will come up with some valirum roots and other stuff and if you live in the right state Weed is better than Benzos ~!

Oh this is from my presonal experience and not off google except some of the research as to why Benzos are so much harder to kick than opiates ! I will add that Colonapen is long release for about 12 hours and not as intense in you blood so with Ultram and BBAC supplement I am tapering of with less withdrawals and a livable life !

If it was me, I would google around for guided imagery for anxiety or guided meditation tracks. I started listening to some CDs using brain entrainment (there are a lot of different kinds, just google), which is trying to get the brain to produce certain kinds of waves, for particular effect and I found some of them are definitely relaxing. I'm not any kind of expert on this, but I am sure if you look around, you can find people who have used particular products, and at certain times (upon awakening for stress during the day, before bed for anxious sleep) and find reviews so you get an idea what might be worth trying.

I know my endo also suggests that people try 25-50 mg of 5 htp for anxiety, and magnesium supplements as well.

Hope you find something that works.
