Hernia?
I have a small bump above my belly button. Whenever I finish doing a set, it bulges out a bit. I can take my index finger and push it back in, only to come back out during the next set. It's not visible to the naked eye, and it doesn't hurt. It's also been like that for at least a couple of years, but I never thought much of it. Actually, the only reason I've been thinking about it the past few days is because I was reading something online about hernias, and I'm thinking that's what it is.
Have any of you guys had a hernia before? What were the symptoms? How serious is this? Is surgery the only way to fix it?

I had an inguinal hernia repaired back in the mid 80s. They didn't use the mesh just suturing. I've had zero problems since. It was painful for about a week and then healed very quickly. It won't heal by itself. Surgery is the only way. With mine I only had a dull ache. No sharp pains at all and just like yours I could push it back in but it would pop back out. All in all it was about 3 months of light lifting.

It sounds like an umbilical hernia, I have one above my belly button as well. It happened on the leg press back in 01-02, only bothers me if I over eat or lift really heavy. I asked the doctor about it and was told it is nothing to worry about, so unless it gets to the point of really bothering me I will just carry on with it. When I get lean you can see it, but it isn't that bad.

Thanks for the replies. I will get it looked at after my bench press comp this week. I train legs tonight; do you think I'll be ok to squat and deadlift heavy? I guess I have been for the past several years, so...
600@50 says he had to lift light for 3 months. Kelkel, how long, if at all, did you have to wait to start training heavy again? Or anyone else who's had a hernia, how long did you have to wait?

OP may have been born with it. I was and have a large one mid-section that bulges during crunches. No pain and Doc said dont worry about it unless it starts hurting...

I just went to a regular general surgeon. Popped it out for him......he said yep I have a hernia. The second opinion required by insurance hurt worse than the surgery.

Sounds like a hernia.. the doc noticed mine during my last work physcial (been there for years). I had to get a waiver stating that I was able to lift a box of copy paper lol
