It's obvious that it is better to be a healthy weight, but ultimately health is so much more than just weight as demonstrated by the loads of slim women who binge, vomit and/or constantly take any number of pills in the quest to be slim enough to get social approval, and that has zero to do with health, but is no problem. There are obviously many examples of self-inflicted (and expensive) health crises and people don't get emotional about those. So, sorry to not be in on the circlejerk, but I don't believe for a second that this is about health. I don't know what drives people to eat compulsively so their bodies massively distort like that, or what drives alcoholics or drug addicts, but I'm pretty sure all of those people are in some kind of pain. I also don't buy the rhetoric that it's about political correctness - they are fat, drunks are drunks, junkies are junkies. I don't think the issue is calling it what it is, I think it's the abject nastiness and intense hatred that gets expressed whenever this topic is raised. No one in everyday life speaks calmly about health problems and what is happening with the obesity problem. People get all worked up and think people who are fat and in obvious pain should die and the world should be rid of having to look at them. Anything other than these people living every day in shame and misery is unacceptable, as though their fatness abrogates their humanity. I find myself silently judging fat people when I see them on the street, and I wonder why I have an emotional reaction to people who honestly have nothing to do with me. I think about why my first thought isn't related to something like compassion or kindness or is at least neutral. And decent. Of course those people would want to avoid the masses of scorn and hatred that are heaped on them if they could - but for whatever reason, they are struggling and can't manage. Honestly, I think it must have to with me because no fat person has ever done anything unconscionable to me.
Nicely put. When I see a fat person I used to think poorly on them. Now I just think they struggle with willpower or haven't the understanding to make better food choices. The only time I am truly bothered by a fat person or ppl is when I am wedged between them in the dreaded middle seat on a flight. I really like my own personal space and it angers me when they take away the little creature comfort of my small allotment in coach.

They effect me when one sits next to me on a flight somewhere and spill over into my seat inconveniencing me and intruding on my personal space I paid for. I could give many more examples but most of you have a good imagination. Oh and how many dont stink?

Exactly. You know I was just thinking instead of sitting I between you should ask to switch with one so you can have the isle or window and make them intrude on each others space instead of yours.

Yes lol so smoking shouldn't be acceptable either. Poor people? Yeah being on government assistance should be frowned upon as well if you don't actually need it. I qualify for food stamps and food closets. Never used either.

That being said I have no problem with it if you ACTUALLY need it but it shouldn't be a lifestyle.

There's so much that I want to say but I know it all wont come out right.
This subject does fire me up because I used to be morbidly obese, I've been there and I got myself out the right way. (No surgeries, no PEDs, just hard work and never giving up)

I understand they are hurting in one way or another and don't want to be fat, its a vicious cycle to get out of but it all comes down to deciding to help yourself,
But hearing fat peoples excuses as to why they are fat and why they can't lose weight absolutely drives me crazy.

I personally think It comes down to education, or lack there of and confusion about what is actually good for you and what isn't.

Marketing on food confuses so many people, However I am not saying shame on food companies for trying to sell their product and make money.

If people were educated on nutrition better I believe more people would make better choices, you cant help/save everyone.

Making people comfortable in their unhealthy lifestyle only hurts them further.

At the end of the day i don't judge fat people they can do what they want and i won't really treat them differently or negatively either way especially if they're nice people but for them to glorify that look and judge people in shape i won't stand for that sh*t

I don't want my girls (pre teen and just turned teen) to grow up thinking it is healthy and ok to be 200+ pounds. I want them to feel a little (little being the keyword) pressure to be fit and look good. Not obsessively but in a conscious effort. I also don't want them to smoke or do any drugs excessively.

The only reason this is news is because this is exactly the type of stuff all these huge people walking around wal mart want to read. They buy magazines, the rest of us buy treadmills.

I don't think being obese is ok, I can't stand smokers although I was one up to 7 years ago and I hate being around anyone that drinks so much that they can't stand up. I judge everyone, including myself. And so does everyone else.

Honestly, at this point I think that the media would call everything over a size 8 a plus size. This includes Gilbert's mom off of what's eating gilbert grape. Sadly.

You beat me to it: I was thinking about the time I had my shoulder pressed hard up against the window for four hours in order to have some space when a big bodybuilder guy sat next to me in coach.

I'm always astounded when obese people are on welfare. If you can afford to maintain 300+ pounds then why do you need government assistance? It's in the same realm to me as people getting drug tested for welfare. You can afford weed or other rec drugs? Well then government assistance isn't for you.

Armykid, I'd have to disagree somewhat. Allot of people on welfare are obese because they eat shit food and do nothing physically, I know I'm my case and geographical area, eating healthy is the most expensive habit I've ever had. I could hit my calories eating McD's and spend a small fraction of what I spend now. but it wouldn't do me any good to eat that shit.

Are you morbidly obese? Also eating "dirty" food doesn't make you fat. Eating to much food does.

Some obesity is directly related to your thyroid as well as other health issues, such as Hypothyroidism with makes most gain weight while Hyperthyroidism is the opposite.

Having said that my aunt who used to be as big as a bus (Hypothyroidism), lost over 280lbs and became a hotty and was also on Dr. Adkins infomercials about 10 years ago. She has since had a kid and ballooned back into a baby whale.

I wish I had a nickel for everyone who had a thyroid issue, not saying she didn't really have issues. Even if you do have a thyroid issue. Your BMR isn't going to be zero. So there's some amount of calories you can consume to maintain or lose weight, people are just lazy.

Well a lot of them do end up having thyroid problems due to the obesity/over eating.

More and more you hear and read about people comfortable in their skin being as far as they are. That is the biggest horse doody!!! If they could have the body of a model or just be hot in a bikini believe me they would be. Tired of watching fat people everywhere. On the street. In the store. Now the roles have reversed. The in shape people like us, with muscle and definition are the bad guys. It's okay to attack our love of fitness but god forbid we attack those with blubber butts love of crap food and overindulgence and laziness. Crap I tell you.

It's really none of my business how these people want to lead their lives. I do have a problem with the message this article conveys. These media-based conceptions of reality are totally devoid of basic truth & remove the aspect of personal responsibility from individuals for the choices they make in life.

You want to eat yourself into grotesque proportions? That's fine, there’s a new label just for you. It's called being plus size & body positive!

You want to max-out all your credit cards with no means of paying it back? That's fine, hire this lawyer and it will be taken care of for you!

You and generations of your family want to live on public assistance & collect food stamps? That's fine, the government will provide you with monthly checks & no questions asked!

Where does it end? IMO we all end up paying for these skewed concepts of reality in some way, shape or form...

I think this articles message appeals to a the female population who is obese. It conveys a message...she's ok...your ok. I think this is more about subscriptions and less about health! Obese ppl want to read this. It makes this feel normal and righted.

Sadly, I think you are correct Girly. I have no issues at all with a bigger woman who is fit. I have seen size 12 women who carry it very well. Unfortunately when I am in my locer grocer, size 12 is considered petite. Makes my wife feel like a super model and I guess it keeps my eyes from wandering too much.

Both of my daughters are the smallest in their class. 7th and 6th grade. I remember when my oldest was 11 and her best friend in her class came over. Mine weighed 62 pounds and was around 4'3. Close to that anyways. Her friend was over 5'4 (she was taller than my wife) and had to weigh 160 easy. I don't know if it was from too much fast food (hormones in food) or what. Today she is much bigger.

The worse thing is, when she stayed the night she wanted to play on our elliptical and eat healthy. I let her go to town and play as much as she wanted. I still feel bad for her lack of parental figures. Her mom and dad were the same shape.

Ahhh Brett. That's a great testimony. You can't pick your parents and your girls are fortunate.

The average female is size 12 in USA. At least was a few years ago. I feel like a super model too I was a big girl once but never felt good about it. Having lost 40 lbs was a huge emotional burden lifted. I am treated better. Ppl are actually nicer, more curious or at least that is my perception. Perhaps some of that stems from my own mind state and unhappiness with my look at the time.

I feel better in every aspect. I am happier. I am less stressed. My vitals are better. My skin is healthier. I have more confidence (altho never was lacking in this department ).

I have considered leading an exercise class at a local church or community center. Free. Just to reach out to women. I would get some type of certification. It would be great to partner with a dietician or nutritionist. My target market would be mom to mom sales to find ladies who could squeeze an hour in the evening twice a week and one day on the weekend. Just an idea that has crossed my mind a few times....

Deep down would a size 22 admit be content as a size 22? Would they admit that? I have never once heard a woman say I really need to gain 125 lbs so I can be a size 22, not s size 18 or even 16.

Don't get me wrong. I am not promoting waif models neither. The extremes are both undesired.

There is nothing sexy or healthy about a size 22, and no women would pass a lie detector test saying they liked being that size. Fat people use this type of shit to hide behind and give validity to their current condition instead of owning up to it and admitting they need to lose weight.

Damn I'm going to get myself in trouble with this Tes person. Another FB friend posted on of her idiotic rants about how comfortable she is with herself (Tes) and how anyone who criticizes her is a hypocrite or how everyone has their vices.

True, but some vices are a lot more healthy and positive than other so I posted this.

"Ive never heard a size 12 say I wish I was a size 22. It's all about choices. If you are truly happy with yourself you wouldn't have to try to convince the rest of the world or worry about what they think. My .02"

Also, a lot of people were trying to defend her saying she does not binge eat. lol

"Anyone who thinks she is not binge eating every day I have some ocean front property to sell you in Arizona.

Another little tidbit, most like to claim a thyroid issue is to blame. Most of the actual thyroid issues are caused by being obese, not the other way around. Same with most diabetics. Your diabetic due to being over weight, not over weight due from diabetes. Not saying neither of these can happen, it's just a lot more the other way around."

Forget all the health complications. Fat people just look disgusting. They think they don't eat that much, but they eat as much as an elephant. And it's never healthy shit either!

When I see how out of control they are over something as simple as not constantly stuffing themselves in to obesity, it makes me feel disgust with them.

What pisses me off even more is that these same lazy pieces of shit qualify for handicapped parking. For a self-inflicted condition! Now, I don't think privileges should be granted for handicaps in the first place, but to bend over backwards to accommodate fvcks that ate to the point where they're not able to do the normal life functions without assistance is just wrong.

And people blame fast food for all these disgusting fvcks becoming fat. I don't blame it at all. We, as a society have become lazy. Everybody gets a medal and nobody is better. Why have any sort of self-control or discipline? I bet you if we got rid of this PC bullshit and started to take responsibility for our actions, we wouldn't have anywhere near as many fat pieces of shit running around this country.
