Sigh... don't go changing your NIC! If you have a static I P based on your NIC address, you can easily spoof or change the NIC address with dozens of utilities on the net.

But I doubt very much that anyone out there has a static I P, the vast majority of ISP's assign an I P thru a DHCP server or thru PPPoe.

For a DHCP assigned address (most cable and DSL modems):

    hit START
    click on RUN
    type in winipcfg
    watch pretty window pop up
choose your net connection from the pull down menu
    hit RELEASE ALL button
    hit RENEW ALL button
    voila... new I P

If you are sharing your connection with other machines in your home thru a router (hard wired or wireless), check out the routers setup screen (usually at http://192.168.1.1) there should be a command to release the I P and renew it. (off topic: If you got a wireless router, change the damm default password and turn on WEP!!! Or else people like me can EASILY use your bandwidth and even access your hard drive!)

If you got DSL that uses PPPoe, simply use your PPPoe manager and close the connection and reconnect. Voila, new I P

Just had an awesome bi-tri workout so I am feeling quite nice

Doesn't work. Comes up saying it cannot find the file. I'm running W2000 if that helps.

    On Win2k/XP
    1. Click START
    2. Click RUN
    3. type cmd
    4. In the DOS screen type ipconfig /release (to release the i.p) and then type ipconfig /renew (to renew it)

What will happen to mp3 players then? Also, if bill gates can't stop people from making copys of his software, i don't think anyone can.
And I would bet that uncle Bill would rather people use pirated versions of Windows than Linux.

Kazaa is a wonderful thing but as a songwriter I can understand the upset
Notice how you never hear artists complaining about file-sharing (except 4 angry 80's skids from Metallica, and fuck them)? Could it be that it's cause the recording companies have them over the oil barrel too.

Is this your home PC or one at work? Also are you using a router to share I.P addresses?

Right.... that's what I was explaining earlier. Your ISP uses your MAC address and assigns the ** address to it for a period of time.

I'm not too familiar with this stuff. I'm obviously more on the application side.

I feel like Homer Simpsons..."Where's the any key."

Are we (consumers) expected to buy the same songs again just because technology has changed? I don't buy it (literally). When I buy a tape/cd/album/8-track, I should be able to have it in any form I please.

And as for up and coming artists like yourself, Kazaa is nothing but positive advertisement. I can't tell you how many wonderful bands I have discovered on Kazaa/Grokster and ended up buying their CDs. Good luck with your music and I would love to hear some of your songs (I am a music freak).
This is a really gray area,If you have music that you have bought and want to tranfer it on different things, feel free. Now letting 7 million people burn off a new Album you just bought is a little different.I do agree Kazaa is a great advertisement and a way to turn people on to different styles,if thats all it was used for, there would never be a problem. It's people who abuse this thats fucking the whole deal up.
