Temporary deadlift bar until gym opens

I can't let my deadlifts go to shit while the gyms don't open til 5th March.

So today... I'm gonna get a load of these 5-litre water bottles with the plastic flexible handle:



I'm going to pour out all the water and fill them with stones:



Stones are approximately 1.5 times the density of water, so the 5-litre bottle full of stones should way about 7.5 kg.

Next I'll have to get a long wooden pole, and I think I'll put three bottles on each side to bring it to about 45 kg. Obviously 45 kg isn't a very heavy deadlift but it will at least keep my muscles alive for the next month and minimise atrophy.

Not sure yet how I'll secure the bottles to the wooden pole. If I put the pole through the flexible handle then I could just duct tape it in place, or alternatively I could use a small chain with a little £1 lock to keep the bottles in place. I can also do squats with it. Also bicep curls.

Its really not that hard to make a temporary deadlift bar. Plenty of scrap yards around, just go find some straight steel. You will need gloves and probably a tetnis shot . . Plenty of steel tubing is also available, hell i see it all the time at lowes. Im guessing if you’re deadlifting your somewhere around 120kg? 3/4 steel electrical conduit could handle that no problem in conjunction with your 100kg squats also. As for weight, the water bottles would work just fine if they are the same quality as my place of employment. 5 gallon jugs with strong handles hell you wont even need rocks just use the most renewable resources we have like water. Problem solved, now you have a deadlift bar so now you can deadlift and get a Dorian back

You would need heavier gauge steel, preferably galvanized 7ft piece of PIPE. A large hardware store would have it you would need 2 buckets full of wet sand on each end. It would get you through the month. I would do it

The whole point of all this was to make something very cheaply. That 7ft pipe will cost a lot.

Just finished my workout. I did the following five times:
Run 1 km, do 10 deadlifts, do 4 front-squats

Then at the end I did another 10 deadlifts and 4 front-squats.

Lastly I did normal squats (three sets of 4 reps).

If I do this for the next 4 weeks then my transition back into regular weightlifting won't be nearly as difficult. It will be nice if I can still squat 100kg at the end of all this, and if my bench stays above 90kg.

I had planned on filling all six bottles with wet sand, but then when I saw how long it took to get all the sand into the bottles, I stopped at 2.

I might upgrade it from 40kg to 60kg at some point though.
