Planning a vacation around a gym any recommendations?
I'm single and have been wanting to take a mini vacation and while thinking of where to go I thought it would be a cool to look for a spot with a kick ass gym, not looking for traditional tourist spots just somewhere nice to relax, scenery is a plus.
I'm in NY and trying to keep this to the Eastern us. Any recommendations?

Whats the purpose of the holiday and the duration? If you are single and want to get on it and bang a few birds than you should be good without gym for a small period. Rest can be good.

If it's a mini vacation, make the gym secondary unless it's part of your vacation. Pushups and walking/hiking will get you by for a few days.
I'd head to Wytheville, Va or possibly the mountains in Ga.There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...

Miami would be my 1st east coast pick & it’s not because of the gyms

Anywhere far from NY would be a very nice vacation in fact you probably wont want to go back there
I can kinda see why you would focus your vacation “around a gym” since you’re in NY better you then me lol
Try Florida

Sorry you ain’t interested in the left coast. Our little area in Los Angeles just got a second location for a gym called “Zoo Culture”. Pricy as all f***, but looks interesting & very well equipped. BTW, the newest location is next to an INSANE sushi restaurant. Ya got your gym & your food; plus the weather (and scenery) - all amazing - totally vacation worthy!
Respect to not vacationing without a gym. Did that in my 20’s & 30’s (much to my wife’s displeasure, but she understood, bless her).

LOL you can get woozy doing legs at Zoo Culture then go next door for some sushi and throw up. If you're going to travel to LA for the purpose of checking out gyms, you might as well go to Muscle Beach or the Gold's in Venice. I mean those are pretty iconic.
Personally, if I was on vacation, I'd be just looking to relax with my girl at some resort. Go to a nice restaurant or two, see a show. Order some room service. Maybe do a little sight-seeing or hiking (depending on where this vacation is at).

White mountains in New Hampshire. If you like lakes, rolling hills covered in fog, nature, good food.
I agree with those who said not to worry about a gym, but I’m guilty of lifting on vacation. It’s not really necessary and it’s good for the mind and body to get away from our routines at times.

Most hotels will have a gym of some sort and if not just do pushups, pull-ups and squats/lunges if you really feel the need to do something. Its actually good to take a few days/week off once in a while to give your body a rest and shock the muscles at the same time.

This last summer holiday, at a resort in Italy where we rented a cottage, I took 3 exercise bands and that was it.
It was the first time I had ever worked with the bands and it was great. They also had a really nice modern exercise bar unit with like 12 different exercises on this "glorified pull-up bar station", I guess you could call it. Those exercises were a nice change from the routine of free weights, and when you are running gear during the summer, so you don't look too shabby; the bands and bar station were more than enough.
There was a gym for use at the resort, but you had to pay extra for it; the price wasn't worth it, for the equipment that they had in there.
Lived in California for a number of years and never made it up to the iconic Golds or World gyms...
Can't really see planning a vacation around the gym or working out. almostgone, Wango and Test Monsterone said it best, on this toipic.

One more vote for this. It is better to have a rest and enjoy your trip, especially if it lasts only 3-4 days. The last time I booked my trip, I discovered the great value vacations reviews here and found good vacation packages. Maybe this source will be useful for someone else.

Johnson City, Tennessee
THE BULLPIT.
Diverse and great options of free, machine, cable, and specialty things like thrusters (gone now), kick-back-hip-hammy-table-thingy, GHR. It kinda looks like a dive bar of gyms but weight wise it's awesome-all you need. Plus it's not real busy and all the people are huge and really nice. Like they're all to big to walk through the doorway without turning their shoulders and all take contracts overseas and yet say "excuse me," "pardon," "good job on that set," and ask if your done on a machine that you restored to preworkout condition a few minutes ago...super good atmosphere.
Also, JOHNSON CITY is a real nice place to go and stay for a bit with many outdoor activities and laid back folks who all look the same and lot's of blonds.
