Bloodwork, but not
There's a saliva test
Female / Male Saliva Profile I
This profile measures your Cortisol x 1, DHEA-S, Estradiol (E2), Progesterone and Testosterone through saliva samples. Will this work?

Policy
Aetna considers salivary tests of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), estrogen, melatonin, progesterone, or testosterone experimental and investigational for the screening, diagnosis, or monitoring of menopause or diseases related to aging, or any other indications because these tests have not been proven to be valid alternatives to serum tests.
I'm not saying the numbers would necessarily be off, but it would have a much larger tolerance for error in collecting the sample at home, and is technically more challenging (serum hormone levels are generally 10-100x higher than saliva so the assay sensitivity would be completely different).Last edited by Docd187123; 06-17-2013 at 07:59 PM.
