Can't donate
This was supposed to be my second time donating blood. I went to the same company (Vitalant) both times. Apparently the first time I wasn't asked, or improperly answered questions about living outside the US. I was born in Europe, lived there for 6 years, then moved to the US.
Now I was told I can never donate blood because of some mad cow disease in the 80's. I would think I'd be dead by now if I had mad cow disease.
My question, if any of you know, is if different blood banks/companies share their donor databases with each other? If not, I could just go to another company and try to donate, and just not state I was born outside the US. If not, my other options are apparently blood letting (either by myself or through a doctor - but for a Doc I need to be diagnosed with high hematocrit, etc.)

I got blood work mid-January:
Hematocrit: 50.6 (37.5 - 51%)
Hemoglobin: 16.9 (13 - 17.7 g/dL)
RBC: 5.58 (4.14 - 5.8)
Triglycerides: 221 (0-149 mg/dL)
HDL: 39 (> 39)
Total Testosterone : 1665 ng/DL
This was on a high TRT dose, before I went down from 200 mg/week to 125. I figured it wouldn't hurt to donate to clean up my blood a little and then retest at the newer TRT dose. I have read that donating is healthy so I want to do it regularly.

Well... If you want to donate then you'll have to lie on the questionaire.
But you don't need to. Not even close

I know someone that lived far from any donation site. He would pin himself with just the needle without a syringe and bleed out for a little while. He would have a friend watch him to make sure he didn't pass out alone. I'm not recommending you or anyone do this, but just an idea FWIW.

I don't think all Blood donation companies care about "mad Cow." It used to be a big deal but that was a while ago. Try a different company, a different county or state. There is also a thread for self-bleeding.
