Here's a quote from a good source who obviously knows what the hell he is talking about...
Jose Torres , NY Boxing commisioner"Mike Tyson is so fast and so powerful that it is almost impossible to resist the guy's punching power. Wherever he hits you, you're going to feel it. He reminds me maybe of George Foreman, but Tyson's much faster than Foreman. He reminds me in style of Rocky Marciano, but he's much faster than Marciano, and he's much bigger, 217 pounds. And he's faster and much more powerful than Joe Frazier, with a better hook. I really have no one to compare him with in terms of punching power."

Agreed! Once he went over to Don King after Cus D' Amato died I knew it was the beginning of the end. What a sad story of what could have been.

No kidding and he should have never lost to buster brown...Don King didnt give a shit about Tyson just as long as he made his money...Tyson didnt even train for the fight and his trainers didnt know shit about boxing...did yall see that fight? To treat his busted eye, they used a balloon filled with tap water! wtf is that?!? And if Tyson never went to jail he would have remained on top, but yes what a sad story of what could have been.

Mike Tyson ****ING SUCKS!!!! All he has ever been is a heavyweight slugger who could never win a fight when matched up with anybody that could move. And all Tyson ever fought coming up were no name heavyweight rookies. Don King knew who his boy could beat and who he couldnt all along. Anytime he ever fought somebody who could move he lost. And I'm sorry he is 20 million in debt, but it should be all the more reason to fight harder. The guy is a sellout, shows no respect to the boxing commission or himself.

Yeah you're right man he sucked...he just went 37-0 only the second boxer in history to ever do that...even if you say that he never beat anybody great, think about how fast he knocked out people that werent in his league...he hardly ever went into a fight that lasted long...when he fought for the title and won it, he won second round. And in his first 17 or maybe even less fights 12 went out in first round. And all of a sudden people like Lenox and Holyfield wanna fight Tyson after he had been in jail for 4 or 5 years but wouldnt have ****ed with him before that...Lenox dodged Mike for years.

Tyson was not regarded as the biggest puncher by a long shot. He rarely ever scored one punch knockouts on top ranked heavies.

His punches were cumulative and looked attractive to viewers since he scored cleanly with them a lot of time.

This was due to his actual best weapon, being hard to hit with all that head bobbing lunging.

Which is why he is finished now since that style is a young man's style. Old guys do not have the legs for it.

The biggest puncher in Modern history was Agreed as being Ernie Shavers, by holmes, ali, frazier etc. Look him up on a search.

Larry holmes was hit by both Shavers and Tyson and said there was no comparison.

Shavers was not much of a fighter apart from his one killer punch.

Tyson would be okay in the 1970's era, but would not have an easy run. In other words he would be another guy struggling to make no.1

I don't know what the fascination is with Lennox lewis and holyfield. They are stumbling hacks who were only the best when boxing was in a total slump.

Their only claim to fame was they beat tyson when he was a stumbling hack.

Tysons best opponent in his hey day was Tucker.

Unless I am mistaken... Larry Holmes said nobody had ever hit him as hard as tyson had.

Tyson doesn't even rank in my top 10 for heavy weights all time.

The way I judge HW's is via a couple of areas: How good as far as physical tools (not necessarily dominant) was that fighter during their absolute prime, Who did they beat and who did they lose to, How deep was the talent pool at the time they were in their prime, How good were their physical tools at their prime, Their intangibles like heart, chin, fighting courage, intelligence, etc.

Based on that here are my top 10 HW's of all time.

    1) Ali
    2) Joe Louis
    3) Jack Johnson
    4) George Foreman
    5) Larry Holmes
    6) Jim Jefferies
    7) Rocky Marciano
    8) Joe Frazier
    9) Lennox Lewis
    10) Riddick Bowe *Not based on his whole career, but when in his prime he had all the tools

The toughest decision was to leave Holyfield off the list, but not Tyson. Tyson was the man in a HW division that was weak. He never picked himself off the canvas and won a fight, he never won a fight that was close, either he knocked someone out because he was physically superior or lost. He was a bully and just like a bully when someone stood up to him he folded. He had great physical tools (not like Ali, Foreman or even Frazier) but he was lightning quick, had a good defensive style and could punch with most of the top HW's of all time, but after that he has literally nothing. He was not a great ring tactician, he had no heart, he lacked top conditioning and never beat an opponent he lost too which is also an idicator of lack of heart and mental determination.

    That's my OPINION.

Kellerman: "If you win this puts you in the Ali, Joe Louis, Jack Johnson level. How do you control the fight?"

Tyson: "It's interesting that you put me in the league with those illustrious fighters, but I've proved since my career I've surpassed them as far my popularity. I'm the biggest fighter in the history of the sport. If you don't believe it, check the cash register."

Sonny Liston, Joe Frazier, Larry Holmes, George Foreman, Ken Norton, Buster Mathis, Jerry Quarry arent good competition, thats gotta be some sort of a joke. i think you have it totally mixed up, during Mike Tysons prime there was no competition AT ALL. Thats why he was so dominant. Every stiff competition mike tyson has faced he has folded each and every time.

    I agree,

Mike Tyson is what Rickson Gracie was to the MMA world in terms of quality opponents he fought.

thats what they said when Ali fought Sonny Liston. Liston was the Mike Tyson of his day. The world have never saw a man so strong, powerful, deadly and quick to get rid of his opponent. Muhammed proved he was the greatest by beating him ( twice at that )..YO CAN NEVER compare previous fighters with todays..they get better each generation because they learn from the older fighters...thats like comparing Jordan to Dr. Jay...its pointless...
