Building obliques for boxing
Have any of you that have competed in boxing ever used dumbell sidebends to build your obliques?
A demonstration is here:
http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/...BSideBend.html
What were the results? Did strengthening your obliques with this exercise make you take a side body shot better? Punch harder? Punch faster? More stronger in the ring? Harder to move around by your opponent?

I asked a question. I'm trying to better myself so I can start boxing again. I've been nothing but respectful to people since I've started posting here. I'm trying to build my obliques but I'm afarid to because I have lovehandles and I heard doing them makes them worse. But at the same time I wanna build them for boxing purposes.
I'd appreciate it if you could help me out instead of insulting me.

It's just, isn't one thread enough? This is literally the third time about oblique bends.
Personally, i dont like them.
Would stronger obliques increase your boxing ability? Yes. A stronger stomach in general will stabalize a fighter. But I mean, if you're gonna do em, do em. If not, then dont.
It's not a life changing descion, just pick up a dumbell and see if you like the results.

I'm sorry man. I haven't sparred in a year and I'm trying to "get in shape to get in shape".
I won't step in the ring again until I'm in good shape.

Yeah they work. They give you a blocky midsection if you build your oblique's enough, but keep in mind you're not training to become a Bodybuilder, you'rer training to be a boxer.

I almost forgot...
Keeping in mind that you're training for Boxing, you shouldn't follow basic bodybuilding. Research deep into Sport Specific training and you'll see a lot of the basic bodybuilding lifts are useless for sports, especially powerlifting.
However, Olympic lifts are very beneficial.
I'd go into detail with why, but I'm very lazy and tired right now. Goodnight.

Hey guy,...There's nothing wrong with the dumbell side bends and nothing wrong with asking a question about them. Yes,..they work,..along with cardio,..those love handles will come right off,..keep it up and give it some time,..it'll happen.

whoa whoa back up
first off, if you wanna get back in the ring, here's what you do
situps, running, bagwork, skipping, timing ball, speed bag, sparring
there you go, go get'em rocky
