I have done shotokan karate which is really the base with tones of kata and point system fighting, in competition you get discalified for hitting to hard.
I moved on to Kyo kushin karate which was full contact knockdown, was a very good karate style with self defense, boxing, leg kicks, knees and all.
I then moved on to tae kwon do and got to try shoryn ryu karate for one month, one of my friend was a black belt at that school, was pertty boring and again it was light contact.
There is also another karate i know called yosekan point system base again.
If you really want to go with full contact then i would tell you to try another art that is if you cannot find any kyokushin schools near you.
I do not know anything about seidokan karate and have never eard of it.
Most karate are point base competition, some have 2 minutes rounds , some have 10 point scoring wins with various point accoreded to head kicks and body shots etc.
The worst i have seen up to date is shotokan, a guy at my job practice this karate and is competition are a joke, first you need to qualify for open points so each competitor has 3 chance to score a point and then its up to the other to score a point, then if you qualify you move on to the 2 point system which is very dumb.
Kyokushin is round bases and pertty hard too, its full contact to the body and if you are black belt its full contact everywhere, the training is amazing and will get you in awsome shape, its not impossible to do 1000 bodysquats and close to 1000 sit ups in one class.
There is a kyokushin school near my house, and i went to visite but i really didnt like the students there and the teacher is an arrogent women ( i have nothing against having a women has a teacher in fact my one of my kyokushin teacher was a women, but the one at the school was really full of herself.)
THis is what i found for you regarding seidokan karate, i would not think that it would be full contact, it looks to be a very traditional karate.

If everything goes well this summer i should be all set to try Kenpo karate, has i said i visited the school and really like the seisen and the students, everyone seems very friendly too and since i am getting back from a long long back injury i wanna take it easy.
My girlfriend wants to try karate with me, she says that this will help her evacuate stress, i am doing lots of research on kenpo right now and i am really impressed by this karate has well, its not full contact but the techniques are cool and there is plenty of hand combination, i am a tae kwon do guy so you can imagine that my hand techique suck.Last edited by sonar1234; 04-30-2006 at 02:50 PM.

Forgot to mention,
Simm i dont know how you feel about forms (katas), but you got to be aware that you will have to learn theses to get your grades (Belts), this can get boring very fast and you can sometime spend your all class learning a form.
So if you do decide to go into karate make sure to check out a couple of classes before getting your membership, i know that the guy at my job that trains in shotokan can spend has much has 2-3 hours a week doing forms, he loves it but even myself i would be bored to death.
This is what i liked about kenpo there are forms but you dont spend your time learning them.
Also most karate classes have the Saturday morning sparring class, so check this out has well.
