What about Chokes?
I agree with most of the stuff said in this thread and being bitten, eye gouged, etc... is a real demotivator for the recipient but my personal favorite, if executable, is a quick choke. Like Sooner said, the blue working the guy's arm from the floor was not the right move (he got his head stomped). All street fights are different and you have to assume that your opponent will use whatever he needs to win but most bar fights I've been in have gone the the ground and I've invited the tackle. Most guys will charge, head down, and that leaves a bjj guy a perfect opportunity for a front choke. Sink that deep and there is no time for a bite, eye gouge, or the like. A deep guillotine will put someone out in five seconds, four of which he's thinking "WTF" is happening? Kimora, arm bar, leg lock and every other lock works great in the studio but a good choke or neck crank is an almost instant fight ender. You can't bite me in your sleep.

" A man can't stand, a man can't fight. A man can't see, a man can't fight. A man can't breathe, a man can't fight."
These are the rules that I live by when it comes to a street fight.

Depends on what form of martial arts vs street fighting.
Sorry to say but most of the martial arts systems will do nothing against street fighting.
I was told grappling like the Brazilians (BJJ) is the most effective. But if you got three or four guys fighting it out on the streets it is much harder to determine what anything would do.
My bro and father both were street fighters. They always claimed it doesn't matter long as you get in and out as fast as you can. When someone pulls a knife on you it changes everything. My dad was stabbed and shot before but he always came out on top. They fought dirty and worse if they were outnumbered. Using anything they could. My dad put on a custom made ring that had a little blade at the end. When three men jumped him on the street he just kept slugging away and watching blood flow from the other men. They eventually gave up or were knocked out.
But you get someone that is well rounded in a lot of things (kickboxing, boxing, and is into mma) that to me is a different breed all together.
Personally I'd go with BJJ when it comes to vs street fighting. But until then I don't think all martial arts can be generalized to vs street fighting.

a muay thai guy or a boxer would knock your ass out - the striking they'll learn is far more effective than what any untrained 'street fighter' might be able to throw at you

OK Scriptfactory, obviously if I have one hand tied behind my back I am at a dissadvantage against your coveted "streetfighter". If a person gets in fight in the real world and uses sparring rules against his opponent then naturally he would get his arse kicked. No one is going to argue that with you. Any idiot that tries to armbar someone who is trying to nail them with a beer bottle deserves what they get. BUT, in the real world the person that trains every day is more likely to come out on top.

Why are you guys even arguing about this? Who knows what could happen in a street fight and who cares unless it even happens.

Street fighting is a form of martal arts
I have seen many street fighters go toe to toe with martial artists, and it just depends on who has conditioned the best for the fight. In the Ultimate fighting championships, Tito Ortize ( A street fighter ) beat the snot out of Ken Shamrock, one of the all time great martial artists.

I wouldnt necessarily say Tito is a street fighter.

so anyone here would tell me mma/vale tudo won't be useful in a street fight? its all about using your martial arts skills in a street fight, not fighting your martial art (or several ones) especting the other guy will respond in the same way... biting, destroying eyes, groin, etc is just canibalism and a coward thing to do because you haven't the skills to do anything in a fight and i know there are no rules in a street fight but there is pride too, if someone beats me in a street fight by biting my dick i'll assure you i'll find that asshole and make him eat his own sh*t, or if i do that to someone who is really beating me out the most pprobable thing is that i'll excuse myself for doing that and pay for the damage done or ask him for another fight but "clean" that time, thats only my opinion.

I don't think anybody ever said MMA wouldn't work, I think the argument is what is better, and the answer is anybody can win when there are no rules.
