I have competed against tae kwan do blackbelts before... I was completely unimpressed.... The only true KO I have had was against a tae kwan do brown belt...

your a pussy, i am a master in TKD and have seen some tkd guys who are pussys and some are really great fighters, same as every other martial art, compete against an elite TKD guy and you'll get your ass kicked all over the floor, your judging a whole art because you seen a couple of tkd guys that didn't impress you, thats smart!!!! btw joe rogan is a black belt in tkd and he would kick your ass!!

Keep it PC guy... don't flame whether you agree with him or not. Truth is you are comparing apples and oranges anyway. I know if i step into a point match where any contact is considered points...i'd loose. I know if I go into the ring mma with a TKD guy, i'll probably win unless he has done some cross training. Can't compare arts to fighting styles. Doens't really work out.

and before you say i'm judging a whole art based on a couple of tkd guys...that'd be incorrect... I just don't like kicks w/ no hip action and letting your hands go down so often. Right up there with Capoiera to me.

I been around tkd for a long time and you got your pussy fighters but you got the ones always waiting with a counter back kick with is lethal.

I would never get back into TKD cause i think its incomplete, you never use your hands to punch but i have a lot of respect for that martial art.

Its fun to practice and fun is the bottom line when you train in a martial arts.

Not everyone wants to compete or be an MMA legend.

absolutely!! nicely said, look at George St. Pierre and David L'oiseau, they both started in TKD, they have awesome kicks and I have seen in more than one occasion where they drooped people with kicks they learned in TKD, like a back kick, I understand that TKD is not the best choice of martial art if your looking for self defence, because almost all fights end up on the ground, but TKD is a good starting point, it gives you amazing cardio, awesome kicks and footwork, then if you want to compete in MMA you learn other skills like judo or BJJ to work on the ground and also get a boxing coach....... boxing is hands, TKD is feet, BJJ is ground put it all together and you have a MMA fighter.

BTW sorry to flame just becomes old news people flamin TKD, I am not a big fan of ITF(semi contact point fighting) Taekwondo but I love WTF(full contact) Taekwondo, it's so fast and explosive, yes I know they don't use hands, but thats because it's a kicking sport, boxers don't use kicks because it's a punching sport, we want to see kicks, speed and footwork, no one is confessing that it's superior or even well rounded, but man I have seen some amazing knockouts with kicks over the past 20 some years that I have been competing and coaching in WTF TKD. I love MMA as well and I also play around with boxing, kick boxing and BJJ, it's all good and it all compliments each other, alot of kids aren't gonna want to start out in MMA but a ton of kids are involved in TKD, so they will learn awesome kicks, footwork, cardio, work ethic and discipline that will help them if they decide to compete in MMA at an older age. Fellows it's all good, lets get along and promote martial arts as a whole
