kimbo and ray mercer thoughts
this fight is coming up real soon and I honestly got to go with ray mercer on this one,I think mercer has way more power in his hands and if they trade standing up im sure he cant match him on power, but thats just my opinion,Im thinking mercer by knockout,

Even an older over the hill boxer is much more talented then kimbo. Mercer by knockout.

Mercer has boxed some of the all time greats, like Holfield and lewis.Mercer was great with cluster combination punches.Look I dont even think kimbo is as good as tank in his peak. The prime tank would have no chance with todays fighters,I dont think kimbo offers much to the MMA world.

I don't know a whole lot about fighting, but how long do you have to train MMA to pick up some moves? I don't really like Kimbo but apparently he has been training MMA for about a year now so I am sure he'll have more to bring to the table than he appears to have on his internet videos... Also, he must know how much of a twat he is going to look if he loses his first MMA fight after all his big talk. He must be training REALLY hard for this cause he will be disgraced if he loses.

But Brock Lesnar has been training MMA for less and all you guys are juggling his nuts. Sure Brock was an all-everything wrestler, but one could argue that it was in a controlled environment, while Kimbo has been street fighting for just as long.
I don't recall Kimbo talking a bunch of shit about his MMA skills. I think he taking advantage of an opportunity presented to him. Should be an entertaining brawl.

Wow. I never even knew this fight was happening and it's only 10 days away! I'm excited for it!

I've been fighting all my life before bjj / mma. Gotta say... i had a shit load of shit poor habbits from it.

wait ray mercer is gonna fight mma with takedowns elbows etc? im not a kimbo fan or anything, but im sure hes ALOT stronger than mercer and he could simply overpower him and win with the ground and pound... i say kimbo wins by knockout round 1

i would like to see mercer win this fight because i used to follow him when he was boxing. ive watched kimbo get dropped by some punks. mercer has never been dropped by a punk as far as the stand up goes, and thats looking at it from professional stand point of view. but i will say this. kimbo is doing the right thing for this fight. joe stevenson and i were in vegas for the last ufc, we went to go visit randy at extreme courter . shawn thompkins and his whole I.F.L team was there. to my surprise, kimbo was there as well in the mix working with the team. he was difinitely a fish out of water, but i commended him for at least doing the right thing. i went from thinking that mercer is going to run threw him, to thinking that kimbos got a chance. from the looks of it, it seems like they were planning to take it to the ground??

This could be a very interesting fight, I wouldn't knock Kimbo so fast, the guy does have some heavy hands and is not afraid to take a hit.
I am disappointed on how they were promoting the fight with his street fight clips though. This was very bad taste IMO.

Ok you got to look at this,Ok as far as standup Mercer has the harder hits and the more better standup I garantee you that,Mercer has far more power I would say that,Im unsure about his ground game,The only bad thing mercer has going into this fight is that Mercer is 41 I think maybe older and his speed is not gonna be what kimbos is,but I Have to go with mercer on this one

I would have to agree that Mercer , if he is in good shape, can take this fight. When is this mess happening anyways?

Just from what I know about these guys, there's no reason to expect a great match from either. Entertaining match maybe. Mercer is an ex-boxer who's just trying MMA well into his forties. Kimbo hasn't faced competitive professional caliber opponents in any sport ever.
I've heard a lot of people talk about how they're looking forward to this fight, but I don't think of it as a notable match at all. These guys get talked about because of stuff they did outside of the kind of MMA competition we're used to watching.
As for who wins, I'd guess Mercer. I've only watched one Kimbo video (and have no plans to watch any more) and he seemed to like to stand up and fight. So it might end up being a lot like a boxing match. Mercer has faced way better opponents in the boxing world than Kimbo ever fought.
Some people would look at Kimbo's muscle size and assume he hits harder, but punching power isn't just about visual muscle size. Mercer had awesome punching power in his boxing days. No idea what's left of it. Even with Kimbo's physique, I'd still rather be punched in the face today by Kimbo than by Mercer.

Kimbo is just a street fighter that goes up against big unskilled guys. Big deal. If he was really that great of a fighter he would have been in the ring ten years ago. The guy is old and got his celeb status by the bs backyard fights.

Kimbo will win by KO/TKO on the ground. The guy has been training with some very good ground people if any of you have been following up on him. I also spoke to him at Hard Rock in the lobby on the way to Rehab during the Memorial Day Weekend and I think you guys will be a bit surprised as to what his strategy will be. Not to say that it's a fight and anything can happen and he may choose to just stand there and slug it out but he didn't seem as dumb and thuggish as people would have you believe.

Guys...this guy is taking MMA for real. give him a chance. here's what Bas Rutten had to say about him and he's training Kimbo. I don't think anyone will say that Bas is not well respected in this sport...

Bas Rutten with some kind words for Kimbo Slice in a message posted on the Sherdog forums:
OK guys, I have to say something here.
I am training Kimbo right now, and I have to say that he is one of the BEST fighters I have EVER trained. He really listens to you and does what you say, do you know how hard that it? If he’s dead tired, and I tell him five more rounds, he looks at me, but doesn’t say anything, he just does it.
I entroduced him to the Bas Rutten MMA workout, he was SO tired, he told me that he has never been as tired. Today I was teaching him again, he asked me in the beginning “Are we ging to do the Bas Rutten workout?” But he said it in a crazy way, so I asked him “Do you want to do it?”. He said “Please, yes!” I asked him why, because all my PROFESSIONAL fighters don’t want to do it. He said “Bas, I want to conquer this thing, I want to do it!”Man, he gets, Lots, and losts of respect!
All the shit that people write about him, I am telling you, and I hope you know I don’t lie, he’s a trooper! I wish that all my fighters would be like him. Even my wife loves the guy. He is SO respectful and uses NO bad language in front of kids (my two little daughters love him, and they don’t like anybody!), I am REALLY, blown away.
He really deserves this, I think this. Can a boxer be a MMA FIGHTER? We all know the answer, but can a street fighter be an MMA fighter? We all KNOW the answer to that!
I would wish that all my fighters were like him, like I said, I can put him through every workout I give him, he WILL do it, no questions asked.
I hope you guys meet Kimbo one day, you will be blown away. I just came back from an MMA event and I brought him there, just see how he is with the fans, it’s crazy!
You also know that I would NEVER train an asshole, so trust me, but he’s got me, Shawn Tompkins (who trained him longer than I have,) and Randy Kathami (boxing coach for my gym) respect. I REALLY love the guy.

Not bad for his first fight. Now I'm waiting for all the Kimbo haters to hate on his performance, especially since everyone of them figured Mercer would knock him out.
