    Brad Imes wins via GOGOPLATA

I would personally love to see the video of him submitting someone via gogoplata but I thought this was entertaining enough...

Imes and Wiuff Victorious in Minnesota; Event Interrupted by Gunshot
Posted by MMA Junkie on September 16, 2007 at 2:37 pm ET
Former UFC fighters Brad Imes (8-3 MMA, 0-3 UFC) and Travis Wiuff (46-10 MMA, 0-2 UFC) were both victorious at last night’s 12-fight World Fighting Championship “Downtown Throwndown,” an event that was interrupted by gunfire.

The show, which was held at the Target Center (home of the Minnesota Timberwolves) in Minneapolis, was billed as the largest mixed-martial-arts show in Minnesota history.

Imes, “The Ultimate Fighter 2” heavyweight runnerup, scored a rare gogoplata victory over local fighter Zak Jensen in the first round. Jensen lost consciousness before he ever had a chance to tap out. Imes joins Shinya Aoki and Nick Diaz in the small fraternity of fighters who have successfully pulled off a submission victory via gogoplata.

Additionally, longtime MMA veteran and two-time UFC fighter Travis Wiuff scored a quick first-round TKO victory (via ground and pound) over 10-year MMA veteran Wade Hamilton.

Last night’s event was interrupted by gunfire, though exact details of the incident still aren’t known. According to a story in today’s Minneapolis Star Tribune, two men got into a fight in the arena. One of the men reportedly shot at the other, but neither man was injured. Police say that no one has been arrested, though they have a suspect’s name.

The event continued after the gunshot.

A Target Center official today confirmed to MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that a shot had been fired within the facility but that no other information was available. The official said that — as far as he knew — the shooting incident was the first of its kind at the 20,000-capacity arena. He also said a few other small fights and skirmishes were broken up during the course of the night.

The Target Center opened in 1990.
