I would like to see rashad vs page.
I have a feeling Forrest is going to be too big for rashad and Forrest will take it UD.
I'd bet my house on Nog

The furnace has been acting up anyway.
Mir gains some respect for his words after, not for being nog.
I felt bad for nog, when i see him he looks like Curious George and I've always been a fan of Curious George.

I don't like this card. Nog loosing makes me too sad to celebrate Rampage winning.

I will be the first to say, but a new dawn has arisen in MMA.
The Nog's, Wanderlei's and Chuck Liddell's are on their way out, Rampage too. He will not hold the belt again either.
We are seeing fighters that use good footwork and have an overall good MMA skill set winning now. The old toe to toe style simply is a 50/50 style fight.
The new breed is IMO:
Rashad
Forrest
Shogun
GSP
Thiago Alves
BJ Penn (kinda old school but puts it all together so well)
Anderson Silva
Marquardt
These come to mind....
Our favorites of the past are on their way out and have paved thw ay for these new fighters to take over.Last edited by Panzerfaust; 12-28-2008 at 12:42 AM.

Should have saved my money. Great fights but depressing results.

Marquardt? Really? I mean he is tough but Silva absolutely demolished him.

I have only been watching about four years as an avid fan but I don;t see this as any sort of new dawn. This is the UFC in all of its evolved glory. The "old " style wasn;t toe to toe either. It has always been submission and grappling IMHO. Even the strikers once on the ground were defeated by those without strike arsonals because it has always been about submissions. We have seen these fighteres, like Silva, and Chuck, and Evans use thier stricking but thier base has always been the ground game. I guess I am just trying to say that the development of the profession is through a refinement of all aspects of MMA in one fighter, not a passing of the guard from brawlers to well rounded guys. No one can be at the top of this sport with a one or two deminsional game for very long. I felt the card was satisfying and worth my money.

You really think Evans will beat Rampage?
For striking, I think boxing has just leaped in front of MT. Leg kicks and good boxing are winning your stand up fights.
I think Page will be fine, he has the best boxing in the LHW

^^^ its all relative.....i see your example in the silva/jackson fight obviously. I think you'll see strong showings from all styles....a great ground and pounder in 205 would be interesting (thus the couture dropping back rumor i believe) MT was never a prevealent in ufc as it was in pride IMO .... main component from MT is the mtclinch and thats everywhere.....

Ya, in pride your best guys were BJJ + MT. It was all you needed.
good hands, leg kicks and GnP seem to favor the cage though.

I am only saying my opinion is that it isn't all of a sudden new to see the fighters on top so well rounded, that has been evolving for some time now. I read your posts and appreciate your views. Just chiming in brother.
BG which part of my own statements do you think are foriegn to me? Maybe it is that you do not agree and chose to be a smart ass about it instead of contributing meaningful commentary?

its already been said.
rashad evans? i doubt he'll be near the top for long. GSP isn't really a new name. he's been around for years, and at the top all the way back to that first loss to matt hughes. avles seems like a new hotshot and thats about it. bj isn't very new either. he's just that much better than everyone so he can stick around. AS has been fighting outside of ufc, but he will definitely be around for a while. marquardt, same as rashad.
higherdesire, the original ufc fights were bare knuckle boxing basically. there weren't many submissions except royce gracie, and he was amazing.

I am with rockin red. Rashad is, IMHO, one of the most dangerous opponents out there. His wrestling is world class and his striking has developed into the upper eschelon rather quickly. I do think that it hasn't been tested yet as much as he will be by rampage. Chuck has had holes in his game all along, and forrest didn;t have the threat of the one hitter quitter which has to give you the confidence to wade in at times. I predict that Rashad will be around for a long time at the top. I can;t think of anyone that I would take over him right now.
