high school wrestling
i am 18 years old and going into my final year of high school and was wondering if i should do wrestling. either the 71-78kg or 79-86kg division. i am 6'2 78kg (172lbs) with little body fat 5-8%. Im not too big for my size but i am quite strong compared to my friend who is at a much higher weight class (200lbs+) and he won city championships. i can:
db bench 180lbs x 3
squat 205 x 2
deadlift deadlift 305 x 2
ive been working out for nearly 2 years, about 1 year seriously. i am following a strict diet lately and put on 10lbs in 3 months and i hope i can make it to the top of the 79-86kg division and increase my lifts by a bit by march (city championships) so i know i can get stronger and bigger i just dont know if i am strogner enough since i see wrestlers are shorter and most likely a little stronger, but i could be wrong since brock lesnar is a big guy and is ncaa heavy weight champion. do i have a chance or will the shorter guy have the edge?

Do not ever go by any of that. I have seen tall skinny guys that can muster out just as much power as short stumpy guys. & vice versa. Strength is alot more than build. One has the upper hand in different areas. For example you are a tall lean long build person. You most likely would have the leverage advantage etc Even if for example the shorter guy would be able to lift more than you, your leverage in some situations would still over power him. Its alot more complicated than this but you get my point?

Do not worry about where your lifts are at. doesn't matter until you have the technique to go behind it
best thing for you to do is get in and start grappling as much as you can. it's going to be challenging regardless of how much you bench/deadlift

Don't get too caught up on strength. Its more about skill. Every move has a counter. Don't go in trying to muscle the other guy or you'll gas out fast. Focus on perfecting your moves. Lots of squatting and deads will give you the explosiveness you need to get off the bottom. Quick, jerky movements are better than slow ones. Hows your cardio?
