Stevia as a sugar replacement?
Can stevia be used as a replacement for sugar without spiking insulin levels?

as far as to the best of my knowledge, it doesn't cause insulin spikes. the majority of research i've read on it indicates it doesn't. even if you do a simple web-search, the majority of that information seems to indicate it doesn't cause an insulin-spike. even if it does, it wouldn't be anything significant enough to worry about.
regardless, it's a far better choice than aspartame and sucralose. there are a couple other natural sweeteners you can find in health food stores, but stevia seems to be accepted as the best out there right now.

Great, thanks for the info.. Same as what I've found. Seems to be a good alternative for diabetics as well.
Anyone else feel free to chime in, thanks for responses so far.-B D

My wife has been using it for about three months after her doctor recommended it. No sides, no gas that I'm aware of, and the girls at Weight Watchers are telling her they've heard good things about it.
She had studied the effects of prolonged use of the aspartane, splenda and equal and felt this was a good alternative.
She is not diabetic, so I don't know how it would affect someone that is.
Hope that helps.

I've tried it.. didn't like the taste.
Yes it can be used and a replacement sweetener.. with no sides that i know of.
Licorice root can also be used. To the best of my knowledge however, i believe licorice root may differ because it contains trace fructose
