Raw Eggs
Well I finally took the plunge. This morning I broke up 6 large eggs in a glass, 2 at a time, and shot them like it was some nasty store brand tequila. Didnt really know what to expect but after the first one I was like "eh, this isnt too bad!"
Funny thing is, the thing that inspired me to do it was watching "Hogan Knows Best" on vh1. I saw him and his son drink a glass of raw eggs before training, and I sat there and thought okay, I know the bioavailability of raw unpasturized eggs is lower than that of cooked, but Hulks pythons don't lie. Plus you have to realize how burnt out on eggs I got. Basically it got to the point where if I even caught a whiff of an omlette I would throw up a little in my mouth, so while it may not be the BEST way to consume eggs, it is better than nothing IMO.

you'll rarely ever see a case in which someone will get salmonella from raw eggs. but why take the chance?

thanks for the concern bro, but im not really worried about it. People have been eating raw eggs for decades. Salmonella are usually transmitted to humans by eating foods contaminated with animal feces, Grade A+ eggs go through a special sterilization process to remove any such contamination. That doesn't mean that it's not POSSIBLE to get salmonella poisoning from raw eggs, but it does GREATLY reduce the risk. Eating raw ground beef is a completely different story, I'm not that stupid, but think about it - eating raw fish is a delicacy. If people were constantly getting sick from eating at sushi restaurants, do you think the U.S. health department would allow them to operate KNOWING that they pose such a hazard? Basically, it boils down to how the food is prepared BEFORE it ever reaches the store that determines its potential for infection.

I stand corrected, bro. Didn't mean any disrespect.

none taken, I didn't know myself until I actually took the time to research it. Don't get me wrong, it's definately better to cook them if only for the fact that you get more of the nutrients, but for someone in my situation who can't STAND the taste or smell of cooked eggs, it's an acceptable alternative.

there is no point in this rockey type bullcrap....you need to cook them for all the nutrients to be absorbed, this is a proven fact

Back in the Arnold days every one was putting raw eggs into protien drinks. Now the birds aren't so healthy.

There's a million threads regarding the same thing. Raw eggs are not as bioavailable as cooked eggs or pasteurized eggs.
Unpasteurized raw eggs = Possible risk of salmonella, low level of bioavailability, and can lead to a biotin defeciency.
You can actually pasteurize your own eggs (Very simple and easy to do), but might as well go buy a carton if your set on drinking your egg protein instead of eating it.

hey buff, do u have any of these studies. i don't see how the bioavailability would differ.

Don't have them with me, no.
But the bioavailability issue actually comes from the presence of a protein digestion inhibitor found within the egg. At a temp of 126 degrees (They pasteurize eggs at 126-140 degrees), the protein inhibitor is neutralized and all forms of bacteria are killed. This temperature also neutralizes avidin, a glycoprotein found specifically in the egg whites, that blocks the uptake of Vit-B6 along with Vitamin H (also known as Biotin). The avidin binds to iron and biotin making them unavailable.
In short, don't consume raw eggs. LOL

Man I just don't think I could bring myself to eating raw eggs but I do put ketchup on cooked eggs at least it helps me get them down?

Also, lets just bring about the issue of drinking eggs as opposed to eating the tastily...

Get w/the times and get outta the 80's!!!
As well, Hulk's "pythons" are not a direct result of drinking raw eggs, so doing so because you think it worked for Hulk Hogan and his arms is skewed reasoning big time.
