    Shake vs. Food post-workout

I read alot of diets on here that include shakes for the PW meal. Is the shake supposed to get the nutrients to the muscles quicker than real food. I just have a hard time having a shake postworkout because I find myself starving in about 30 minutes.

its fine as long as u get the protein shake and carbs post workout i ussually eat 30-60 mins after my shake.....the protein is used up real quickly by your body so its fine to eat a half hour after ur shake......its what i ussually do is have my shake take a shower and start making my eggwhites on whole wheat toast with i cant belive its not butter (lol)....

well bro, whey protein is absorbed quicker than whole foods. this making it ideal for pwo. the typical pwo shake consists of a 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein. carbs can be anything from oats to dextrose. the protein should be coming from whey powder. also it is ok to feel hungry 30 minutes later, because thats where the ppwo(post post work out) meal comes into play. this meal consists of protein/carbs coming from whole food sources. chicken/tuna/turkey and sweet potato/rice/ and is usually consumed 1 to 1 1/2 hours after your pwo shake. good luck

The shake is PWO (right after workout) and then you need a carb/protein meal PPWO about 1 hour after workout.

The PPWO meal always hits the spot for me but sometimes it's hard to wait.

twisted, eff that man. have a shake when you leave the gym. go home cook your PPWO meal and eat it then. why wait? whey is absorbed so fast you need a solid protein source. do teh shake and then do the bake

Whats the best way to get enough carbs into a shake to get a 2:1 ratio. I usually throw a banana in my shakes but that is ony about 30g of carbs. Where can I get that extra 50-70g?

Personaly I use a banana and half a liter of milk. That gives me around 50grams of carbs and it suits my needs perfectly.

You can throw in oats, another banana, milk ect.
