whats worse
how important is meal for breakfast before working out. Because i find i can eat like two slices of bread 50 carbs and about 7 protein right when i wake up then go work out better then having to wake up and have a whole meal or shake and having to weight the hour to hour and a half when i am already waking up early for work

I dont know what the best answer is (perhaps the other bros can chime in) BUT i will go by my gut instinct
2 slices of bread is fine to me... you are repleneshing your blood sugar level and halting your catabolism before you work out..obviously anything you burn will be the energy from the bread you eat so there should be no significant degree of muscle catabolism
Here's just a few suggestions I have:
- consume a casein shake or slow protein release food (cottage cheese, etc...) right before bed...so you dont wake up completely malnourished
- Have 10-20g of glutamine (in water) with your bread
- Carry a shake and drink it between your sets....I'm sure alot of bros are gonna disagree with this one

If you only eat two slices of bread and thats enough for your workout then you REALLY need to rethink your workout routine. I can't image giving your all on two slices of bread.

That has nothing to do with intensity of workouts, some people can put out 100% 1st thing in the morning and some people have to.
If you can do my workout better, or just keep up with me....Ill do things ur way from now on.....

Let me get this straight, so your saying you pre-workout meal doesn't really matter ? Because that was my point. How can you expect to get a killer workout when you only eat 2 slices of bread
To me this is unheard of.

I have a gatorade during the workout sometimes to rehydrate.
Even when I was a bodybuilder Id workout 1st thing in the morning at times and lifted the same weights I did when I trained after a meal and made improvements and now Id say my workouts are way harder and I still finish em and improve.
It all depends on the individual, like I said...some not all.

Like IFX said, some do some don't need a preworkout meal.
Some do better eating pro/fat opposed to pro/carb preworkout.
Me personally I need more than 1 MEAL to get anywhere in my workout.

See scrapakilla..what you just did
opened up a can of worms
but seriously, if 2 slices works for you, then why fix it if it aint broke! Ideally, a proper PWO meal would be best but since you dont want to wait around in the morning, it is understandable
Be sure to adjust your daily macros accordingly
cheers

You claim you lifted the "same weight", well there was your problem, there is something called progressive overload where you lift more weight or do more reps Every time back in the gym.. obviously you were not gaining strength which equates to size, so I'd say whatever you were doing wasn't working to well.

I mean lifted the same weights I was when I was working out after food.
AND
Made improvements at the same time when I kept doing that for approx 2 months.
I did make strength gains and size gains, I wasnt using any AAS and my diet was not that good.
I say I was a bodybuilder because Im training intensely for a branch in the Military now, making strength, speed, endurance, size and over all preforamance gains, just working out 1st thing in the morning, 3 meals a day either 1000 calories or 2000 each depending on my workouts.
I didnt say it works for everyone but some of us can do it and make progress.Last edited by IronFreakX; 09-22-2006 at 02:48 AM.

Recommended Prot/Carb ratio I believe is 1gram of protein to 3-4carbs for optimal preformance.

Try drinking a small Preworkout drink at the least, and I'm not a big fan of supplements either.. Try 15grams Whey with 50grams of maltodextrin. It should do wonders for your workout.
