Advice for becoming a fitness model

I am 20 yrs old, 5'4" and 125lbs. I would like to compete in a fitness or figure competition, and hopefully be a fitness model too. I eat 2 eggs for breakfast, usually some kind of sandwich for lunch, and i eat spaghetti or steak or chicken for dinner. My boyfriend knows alot about diet but his are way too hard for me to follow because they are so strict. Well its not so much his diets but his workouts. Also, he knows more about training men than women so any advice on working out would be great too!

    THANKS

What are your goals? Drop bodyfat? Gain lean mass? Cutting/Bulking stickies aren't gender specific. You would just need to adjust your macros accordingly to your goals.

If competition and fitness modeling is something you truely want to do, then you will have to get used to strict eating most of the time. Even though you can be healthy and balanced and include fruits, low fat dairy, veggies and whole grains, you will have to have an idea of your exact intake every day. You will need to adjust your calories and workouts all of the time. You will definitely have to lead a disciplined lift most of the time. If it is something you really want to do unfortunately unless you are blessed with a great metabolism and fantastic genes your boyfriend is probably correct with his advice. (this is why my wife and I clash and she will never compete).

macros would help a great deal. From looking at it, I would drop all juices/milk...stick with water.

I would also drop bread and add oats/yams/potatos/grits etc.

    Where is your PWO shake?

not sure if you wanted a critique but gave you one anyways

to start with .. hardly any women post in the women's forum.. so I never bother to look there anymore anyway. though I'm thinking I'll start a training log in the New Year. I've just hired a coach to get me sorted for a figure comp end of May.

Best advice to start with - sort out your diet first, cos what your eating now is not ideal. there are macro calculators around.. the one I know of off the top of my head is on the muscletech website.

oh and unless your bf is a meathead and only concentrates on chest and shoulder work -then training doesn't need to be any different for men to women.

Deltsarehot8,i dont see any fat added in.Try for 2 tbsps flax thrown in with two of the low carb meals.Maybe ask the BF to subtract the calories from some of the protein.Or just add it anyway and see where you stand.

When I go lowfat my skin drys up and my joints hurt.Your body though can make all the fats it needs except for the EFA's.Flax will cover you on that ground and youll notice softer skin with it.

What is 'too strict' about this?

It's more food than you currently allow yourself.

If good advice is what you truly came here for... my advice would be to switch immediately from what you're currently doing, to what he advised you to do.

Cus your current 'diet' won't get you anywhere near your goals... if competing is indeed what you aspire towards.

Come back when fat loss stagnates. We'll have suggestions then

Yes she needs fat.. but you can't toss in generic numerical units just like that.

Who's to say that she needs THAT much fat?

What she should do.. is start the diet.. see how she reacts. (giving it at least 6 weeks)

    Then re-assess.

She'd need to calculate the macros per meal as is also.. so she could come back and have it adjusted at a later date

'good' advice.. but Realistically speaking, it'd be tough to ask someone who's accustomed to 'free eating' to drop everything at once.

Personally, depending on how far out from her proposed contest she is (and her body composition) i'd leave the juice and milk untouched.. just retrict portion size. Also, i'd make sure the juice was that without additional sugars...the same'd go for the milk (+ switch it to low/non-fat)

Ditto. Or at the minimum.. switch to whole grain stone ground pita bread in minmal quantities.

Now that i've really had a second to go tru it in detail and roughly calculate the macros... i'll say it's low carb and low kcal... maybe too much so.

Lemme take a dig at it.

Seems he's alloted the majority of your daily carb intake ('majority'= all useable carbs) to your first meal.. which is 'ok'.. and 'can work'.. but not an approach i'd use. Unless you were technically obese or nearing that ...with impaired glucose tolerance. Even then i wouldn't lump carbs into just that meal... but rather supply small amounts tru-out the day.. or moderate amounts at the times of highest glucose sensitivity.

This meal plan he set up would more suit the days you don't train as carbs are needed to support high intensity training. During a high protein low-carb diet, protein will be deaminated to supply glucose. The process however isn't efficient.

I'd much prefer you ate more carbs... but that's just my humble thought on the matter.

yes, I agree with dropping milk/juices slowly...I use to drink so much milk

As far as PWO, what else would you consider other than whey?

BCCAs.. and a small boiled potato.

Followed by a complete meal (lean protien; moderate amount of carbs; small amount of EFAs; 1 cup veggies) 1-1.5 hours later.

    Ditto, PWO = BCAA's + something high/med GI.
1 hr following Lean protein source + Med/Low GI carbs

    Right on the money C

Btw, if that diet is "too strict", forget about competing, you'll never make it. Go back to ballet.

I agree with limiting the juice because of the sugar, but not so much the milk. Many people shy away from dairy products, specifically milk. I used to avoid it, and began using it in my diet with no problems at all. I suppose some people react differently, but I think as long as she isn't lactose intolerant, especially as a female she should include dairy in her diet. Now contest prep is a different story, but I have a feeling she is nowhere near this phase yet.

I like to follow what Udo Erasmus says about EFA's.

1 Tbsp for every 50 pounds of bodyweight....roughly.Thats a good starting point and would give a lean woman about 2 tbsps.I take 3 now since I am 180 pounds of mean muscle covered by the most exquisite layer of lard that one can lay their eyes on.

Get your panties out of a bunch and take a bit of humor.

Don't think just because you're a girl everyone here will kiss your ass and tell you how easy it's going to be to become a fitness model, with the attitude you have and the way you take criticism you won't make it far.

Best of luck, it's gonna be a long road for you.

I dont think its going to be easy, nor do i want anyone to kiss my ass. Ill make it far cause i have a boyfriend that will push me like i have pushed him!!! And i dont think its going to be a hard road. I know what it takes! I was a gymnast for 16yrs and had a build of a fitness model! But thanks anyway

Some ppl just like it sugar coated. Lets keep complimenting her so she'll stay happy.

Come to my gym one day and train/talk to some real female fitness competitors and you'll get a taste of what you're going to be up against. These girls take it very seriously and won't accept second place and do everything they are told to a tee and don't whine and complain because it's too hard. You have a long road ahead and you've yet to even step onto the pavement, so chill out and just take it for what it's worth.
You have tons to learn, I'd suggest you be a bit more open-minded. This isn't gymnastics.

Btw, the majority of ppl on here who even know what they're talking about get paid on a normal basis to give the advice they give for free on this board so if you don't like the advice I apologize but some ppl pay good money to get told what they need to work on, you on the other hand are expecting it all for free.

Btw, the majority of ppl on here who even know what they're talking about get paid on a normal basis to give the advice they give for free on this board so if you don't like the advice I apologize but some ppl pay good money to get told what they need to work on, you on the other hand are expecting it all for free.

i dont expect things to be sugar coated! and i dont accept second place! Becoming a fitness competitor is very similar to my background anyways. i know what im up against, and im willing to work my as* off. So please dont tell me that all i want is things to be sugar coated, you dont know what im like if i want something. I will do everything my boyfriend says to get there!!

I'd hire a coach if I were you, someone who actually has experience with female competitors.
