    middle of the night drinks

    waking up in the middle of the night to have a protien shake or a glass of milk, is this good or is it not necessary?

    It is not all together necessary, but it could be argued to be beneficial. The thinking behind this is that during the day one consumes food every 2-3 hours. During the night you are getting 8 hours of sleep and no nutrients are coming into your body during that time. That is basically the reasoning behind some people taking in protein during the night. It is also the reason that you will see many diets include a before bed meal consisting of cottage cheese or a casein protein. These are both slow digesting forms of protein which will deliver their nutrients for a longer period of time.

    I would rather get the sleep then the food. Take in slow digesting protein before bed and sleep tight.
