Well, it is under the diet forum, so I suspect he was looking for a dietary solution.

I can say that lower carb diets are bad for energy/metabolism. They are good for cutting water weight hence they are popular. Splitting meals up into 6 small meals does wonders for energy. It helps you avoid carb comas and insulin spikes. Avoiding sugar and refined carbs is clearly obvious.

I am a big fan of the Paleolithic Diet/Zone Diet combo.

^^^ As said above, nothing will boost the metabolism like eating frequently and resistance training. Most girls don't like to hear this though, in my experience.

I would have to say this statement is partially false. They are not popular for the cutting of water weight. Yes, this is one of their perks, but low carb diets are so popular because of their weight loss and fat burning success. I won't get into another rant about ketosis, but if your body is running on ketones as its fuel source, energy won't be a problem either. And please post some studies showing how diets consisting of low carbohydrate intake are bad for your metabolism.
I agree with splitting your meals into 6 meals, but I disagree with it helping you to avoid insulin spikes. Your insulin is spikes 6 times if you have a moderate or higher amount of carbs in those meals. Maybe not as massive a spike as if you just had 3 meals, but thats because your insulin doesn't drop as low as it would with 3 meals. It stays somewhat elevated.

It depends on how much calories you decide to cut when going low carb. If you cut too many calories due to poor planning then your metabolism is bound to tank.

I was careful not to say no carb. I think keto is excellent but it isn't for the casual dieter. I think most people would be unable to stay in keto and their energy levels/metabolism would be horrible.

If you are talking about the common person lacking the self discipline to stay strict on that diet without flaw, then yes, I would agree with you there in regards to the energy levels. Essentially that would be a low carb diet, where the body is still relying on the carbs as it's fuel source. But I still think the metabolism would rely on what their calorie intake was like.

Insulin spikes would lower, we would have to get into glycemic load/portion size discussion.
