    Best carb source after workout?

    Let say that you dant want to use simple carbs after the workout whats the best source of carbs to eat with your protein shake, grits or oatmeal?

    personally i like oatmeal, bananas, red potatos or sweet potatos PWO

    but they say simple carbs are best and oatmeal takes too long to digest, but i want to stay away from simple carbs i have heard something like this: cutting phase complex carbs after workout, bulk phase simple carbs after workout, is this true?

    ^^ i see the reasoning behind that theory. I personally think banana may provide best of both considering its GI and its high fiber content ...jmo....

    The 'best' carb source is the one you can best utilize.

    None of the generic recommendations I see on the forums.

    If oats are it for you... use oats.

    A large number of people are allergic to grains however, but I'm yet to come across someone who is allergic to tubers. For this reason, I utilize tubers in the pwo environment... both w/ regard to myself and a large percentage of my clients.

    I have some of them, particularly those who show signs of chronic inflammation (e.g. glucose intolerance), allergy-tested.

    The milder cases, I review their eating habits for potential allergens... then we use the process of elimination.
