Should You Avoid Whey Protein On A Ketogenic Diet ?

The goal of a ketogenic diet is to keep insulin levels low to prevent the insulin from storing fat.

Whey is insulinemic, and as little as 20g keeps insulin levels elavated for hours.

Should whey protein be avoided then if you're trying to cut down?

What about ON's Gold Standard (4g carbs per serve)?

I think the point is being missed here.

It has nothing to do with the carbs - whey protein (with or without carbs) will cause an insulin release which will interfere with ketosis and put your body into a fat storing mode as opposed to a fat burning.

Anywhere under 60g is fine depending on your body weight. ON whey protein is fine as well. Thats what I use when I do keto. I have never had an issue with it.

I am in no way claiming to be an expert in the matter, more like a novice. With that said, since when does any type of protein cause an insulin spike/release? I was always under the impression that it was carbs that did this.
