Is a casein shake as good as (or almost as good as) whole food protein?

We always hear to avoid too many shakes because you need whole food.

But since casein is a slow delivery system, can a 25g casein shake be thought of as eating 25g of protein's worth from say, chicken or egg whites?

There is no substitute for food. Shakes are great and alot of help when you are trying to keep your protein high.

IMO they're closer to a whole food than whey, but still not on par - no true thermogenesis involved with shakes.

Agreed. Whole food is normally superoir.

Casein/Whey is superoir PWO IMHO. Whey is just too quick and doesnt prevent protein (muscle) breakdown over time.

    Then whole food, 30-45mins PPWO.
