I think that whole foods and then followed by more whole foods is great! I personally utilize a shake immediately PWO with oats and whey 2:1 carb to protein ratio. Then, about an hour later I have a whole foods meal. So, whole foods with complex carbs, don't see a reason to spike the insulin really.

wow... oscar jones, you sir are right........

fast carbs, although this is the only time, maybe breakfast, where you could have some simple carbs, its really not necessary.... going for insulin spikes is only vital if you train more than once per day and need to quickly recuperate for your next workout....

if you just train once per day, no need for simple carbs... I just use oats, blended with whey and water

Would brown rice or anything with wheat in it (breads, tortillas, etc) be a good carb source for PWO?
