It depends on what kind of protein drink and when you drink it in relation to your meal. If you do a protein drink as part of a meal then it should help curb your appetite or satisfy you til your next meal. If you mass builder 8000 with five scoops of whey protein, one scoop of soy, one scoop of casein mixed with 32 oz of whole milk, two raw eggs, a banana etc... It would take me two meals to finish that. I take a protein shot after my workout to get those much needed nutrients into my body in that window following the workout, then fix a regular meal and it never slows my appetite down.

Do you mean kill your appetite as in you couldn't eat more if you had/wanted to, or that it suppresses your appetite? Casein shakes hold me over for a little while, but nothing like real food.

I agree sometimes that whey shake right after working out kills my appetite for my PWO meal

I find that I am starving from the moment my PWO shake goes down the hatch. Really protein in general doesn't fill me up at all or inhibit appetite. Fibrous vegetables and complex carbs are another story. This is why most guys running keto diets will tell you they're always starving.
Are you using a whey isolate or a low quality protein? Sometimes, they can cause some bloating and gas which could be the issue.Last edited by Damienm05; 10-10-2010 at 06:10 AM.

If you have to pick between PWO shake or food, go with food.
