    Dirty Bulk?

Hey guys I was wondering if a dirty bulk would be better for me. I've tried a clean bulk the last year and obviously the results were much slower. I need the put on about 20lbs in 5 months. My metabolism is fast, and I know, eat eat eat! Calories in vs Calories burned. Right now Im out with a torn Meniscus and getting surgery in a week, and also have a fractured foot = no cardio, just rehab and rest. So my question is, would a dirty bulk be ok, and once Im healthy, work on the added weight. I feel that now I have an opportunity to put on weight without any cardio etc. Any thoughts?

I would never recommend a dirty bulk to anybody. It will do nothing but make you fat. If you eat 5000 calories/day clean or 5000 calories/day dirty, it's still 5000 calories. Dirty bulks are just an excuse to eat whatever you want IMO, it's the lazy approach to adding mass. You won't have to 'work on the weight' (much) after a clean bulk. Why look like shit half the year if you can look good all year round? Just my .02

Eat clean all the time with the odd dirty meal thrown in, no need to be carrying around extra bodyweight when its not muscle.

I thought it was cals in cals out. If you are eating 5000 clean vs. 5000 dirty with the same amount of protein wouldn't the gains be the same. I have noticed when I bulk clean v. dirty I get fat if I'm too far over maintenance no matter what I eat. Dirty Bulking usually causes you to eat even more calories though and its harder to keep track of fast foods.

Cals in cals out is valid but not everything. 5000 cals clean vs. dirty mostly definitely wouldn't yield the same results. One will yield mostly all gains in lean mass, the other would be some lean mass as well as some fat. If it was 50/50 I think you'd be lucky. It has to do with the way the body processes macro nutrients, meal timing, and macro combination's /ratios, not just cals in vs. cals out.

On the flip side, I have read studies of people eating under maintenance and gaining bodyfat. Seems impossible, eh?

Insulin ... See what happens to your physique if you eat cookies, cake, mashed potatoes, fries, etc as your carb sources regardless of a relatively low total calorie intake.

Your idea to follow the modern American diet, coupled with the modern American lifestyle; is exactly why the average modern American is fat, out of shape and asking me to pay their health care costs.

Setiously, what were you thinking when you made this post? To see if you could get approval to eat like an idiot while you're laid up and hope you'd be able to magically turn your newfound fat into muscle?

Having said that, if you would just like to gain weight for the sake of gaining weight, my answer is yes..eating whatever you want will be farrrrr less painful and a brilliant idea.

    Good luck.

Thanks guy. Its a shame that the American lifestyle is like that. Mine is not. I was not looking for approval, just seeing what some thoughts are. Me and body fat, ya...don't go hand in hand. Not worried about that one. On the other hand, what the others were saying above I agree with. Why not 5,000 good in vs 5,000 bad. Or maybe just some growth hormone ...seems to be the direction many go in. No thanks
