Top round/London Broil steak macro question
I will buy either one, depending on what they have and i always thought they were pretty similar macro wise.
I am making a list of all the things I eat and now I am really confused. Wiki says that London Broil is often mislabeled top round or something?
On livestrong there is a big difference in protein between the two. For a 6 ounce serving it is saying that the London Broil only has 46g of protein, while the top round has 60g. It also says that the top round is about 355 calories, and the london broil 310 per 6oz.
So can someone confirm if all those numbers are correct?
There is not much info out there on "london broil" specifically, and on this site.....
http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/...roducts/3569/2
it lists top round and london broil as the same thing macro wise while livestrong says different.
So what is the deal?Last edited by bigslick7878; 01-21-2011 at 11:08 PM.

the numbers are just a generalization that may, as you have noticed, differ slightly from source to source. off the top of my head 60g protein sounds high for 6oz. of meat but, i could be wrong i guess. either way, the place i buy my london broil sells top round and "top round london broil" and they both have the exact same macros on the nutrition label....if that helps..

Yeah I have noticed that different sources have slightly different numbers for a few things. I could understand a few grams here or there but 14 grams of protein is a pretty big difference. I am trying to tweak my diet in a few places and just am trying to be precise about what I am eating.
The London Broil looks exactly like top round in the package. I usually buy it in about 3.5lb amounts and it is in 2 separate pieces in the package which I cut up myself to 5-6 ounce portions.

Where did those numbers come from?
BTW that only comes out to about 40g of protein for a 6oz portion, an even bigger difference than what I saw.

just realized that the lower number you found (6oz.= 46g protein) is a big difference from the ones i get (4oz=25g, which would be 6oz=37.5g). thats 9 grams difference right there which is a big difference like you said =P or 23 grams difference with the higher number you found haha...anyone else want to chime in here???? i always thought in general the rule of thumb for pretty much the common meats atleast was about 6grams protein per 1oz....but i could be wrong, if i am i definitely want to know.....anyone?

I agree with Natural's original post of the macros, these are far closer values for that cut of meat. You would do well to use those as your guidelines (macro)
