    Best post-workout shake

Whats your best post workout shake?

    I use 36g protein/50g Carbo Gain/10-20g dextrose
Tastes like sweet cold hot chocolate
    Goal: replenish/saturate, spike insulin
    Ultimately put on size/mass/bulk

    Interested what everyone else drinks

You need more than 35g of protein after a workout...at least 50g.

That's my morning shake, except 1 cup oats

I just started using Carbo Gain for PWO figuring that it would be broken down and absorbed by the body faster than oats.. What do you guys think? I would much rather use oats if they would work the same

Carbo gain is derived from Maltodextrin I believe. Personally, i'd rather stick with a completely natural food like oats. I'm not interested in 'spiking' insulin , only getting insulin doing it's job. Don't forget that protein itself has an effect on insulin to some degree. I think you'd be fine with oats.

Biggest broscience myth around. I think it was Kaizen or one of the companies that started this bs.

P.S. - if you convince enough people they need more protein PWO then they are gonna use their powder faster and spend more money longterm.

    1 Sccop Whey (18g Pro)
    1 Scoop Casein (18g pro)
    Oats (30g carbs)
    100ml Skim milk

This gives me about 40g of carbs and protein each.

This is the same every time no matter what phase of cutting, buliking or maintenance I am in.

And then I eat a proper meal approx 1-2 hours after.

I consider my post workout shake to be one of the six most important meals of my day!!!!

And yeh, post 7 is a blanket statement that will never be backed up....

    There are too many variables...

How soon you eat a PPWO meal being a big variable

Also what your PWO shake consist of

Even what your PPWO meal consists of is a variable

I actually like to drink my pwo shake as soon as I Finnish the gym and then sip on a drink with about 5g of BCAA's up untill the time that I eat my PPWO meal...

No science behind it but I figured that additional BCAA's during this period will do no harm

To add to this thread, I will share my opinion...

If you can consume a PPWO meal (consisting of a slower digesting protein source such as beef or other animal proteins) about 60 mins after your PWO meal your ok to stick with straight whey protein and carbs PWO

If you cannot then I would suggest you take a mix of protien sources PWO...

Whey and casein is the obvious combo that you can throw into a drink but you don't have to stop there...

    Whey
    Egg whites
    Casein
    Chicken
    Beef jerky

I'm not suggesting you blend this all up and drink it.... But a drink with egg whites, whey and casein would be good and if you can snack on a little chicken or beef jerky then great....

I recently attended a seminar with Hany Rambod and he has his guys eat a blend of proteins in there meals (not PWO specific)

From personal experience I think PWO are almost useless and have been hyped by bodybuilders that use insulin but they cant tell you they use insulin so everyone assumes its just something everyone needs to do. Im not the most massive or ripped but my stats are 230lb, 7% BF 6'1 which kinda is a guage for how credible I am. they sure do taste good tho if your on a restricted diet. I just useually eat a normal chicken and rice meal or something like that. Also if you are prone to acne any of these processed types of calories may be your problem.

Please post a picture...Bolded are mutually exclusive. The stats you're suggesting would imply you could compete with only a little work.

Also stats have nothing to do with credibility to a fair degree. Admittedly, I wouldn't trust any personal trainer who wasn't healthy nor any blind surgeon but for an average gym junkie stats do not reflect knowledge nor understanding.

I agree to an extent - I think PWO nutrition choices have been hyped, but by the supplement companies, not bodybuilders (or bodybuilders being sponsored by said companies). That is not to say PWO nutrition isn't important; clearly it is, and studies have proven this beyond a doubt.

x2 for pics. If your stats are even close to what you claim, that's pretty impressive.

I dont have pics on my comp, just my phone and i dont know how to get m over cause its a piece. Ive been as small as 187lb 5% bf so its not all genetics. And i would say stats have alot to do with credibility to a fair degree rather then nothing to do to a fair degree. lets not highjack this thread too bad :P. If you could tell me an easy way to post pics from phone i would love to
