Skinny at 47
I would like to start a thread on what skinny, old guys do to look and feel better; and, of course, looking for some quick advice from the forum for personal reasons.
I'm a young looking (some think) 47 yo that has worked out throughout my life trying to bulk up and have a body that is close to the average. A great benefit of working out has been staying fit, yet the physical, outward appearance has been pretty much a plateau with some happy gains here and there. I'm talking being 105 lbs throughout HS and college with a final gain to 120 in my mid 30's. Now in my 40's, I am finally hitting towards 145-150 at 5'7" height. I like the extra weight, yet being forty plus, it quickly goes right to the belly and no matter how much more I lift, muscle gain is at a much slower rate. Getting rid of the body fat helps cholesterol levels, yet it is hard to keep the muscles fed for increased size; so being thin, sinuous may be healthy, it is far from being visually appealing. This can be as frustrating as being overweight and needing to regain that youthful physique - for me, having a body that won't bulk up nicely is equally frustrating....not to mention that I'm not happy having this wonderful extra weight and not being able to tap it's potential. Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Here is a quick overview:
Breakfast: kasha or granola, yogurt, 2 slice cheese, egg (slightly allergic), coffee black
Lunch: grilled chicken breast or hamburger, small salad
Dinner: one protein, veggie and carb
Don't drink milk (allergic)
When eating out it is usually sushi or Indian or healthy Mexican food
Dinner at home is sometimes whole wheat pasta with a salad and protein
Supplement with vitamins and carnivore protein drink....sometimes hyper blast
I have tried 6 meals a day too....3 main and 3 small ...works best for energy

I'm sure I'm gonna have some sinful moments, but generally I pull stuff away if I know it isn't good, like white bread or a ton of preservatives. BF for sure, but when I have BF, I also get some nice weight elsewhere, yet proportionately not right.
Kasha brand granola or flaxseed granola
I like yogurt with pro biotics and fat....not much into fat free stuff . Greek yogurts....usually Dannon or Yplait
Granola bars or fruit/nut bars with cane sugar
provolone or fresh mozzarella
Hamburger without bun or with whole wheat when I crave it
Salad with bleu cheese ...ugh! I know! Or oil vinegar
Chicken masala....usually a buffet, so fresh salad with yogurt dressing, chickpea stuff with....cheese! Just found the culprit
Mexican is usually fresh tacos..mexican style with onion and cilantro and corn tortillas siempre....help?

Thanks for being honest with what you are eating. We need a big overhaul.
To lose BF:
Cheese is out except low % cottage cheese
Yogurts? The ones you have? OUT. Plain Greek yogurt like Chobani or Fage is what you want and you can add some splenda and raspberries or blueberries. The others have WAY too much sugar. We want to control your insulin .
Check the labels on the nut bars and make sure high enough protein and low sugar. From what I have read, one of the best to get is Cliff Builder bars...there are Cliff bars and then there are Cliff Builder bars which are even better.
Blue cheese? try lite
Chicken Marsala? at a buffet? i bet a lot of butter...
Tacos? And a corn tortilla siempre? NoPE.....nunca if and if you want to lose BF.
Please read some of the threads around here and make up a list of foods which are on the other stickies/threads for review. Foods you WILL EAT. So this works...
Gotta have patience to get this down.Life is too short, so kiss slowly, laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly.Author Unknown
