Becoming so ravenous, feels like im on 3000mg of EQ

First off, I am in love with the Cyclic Ketogenic diet. I have more energy, I've noticed minor fat loss, I've lost no strength or muscle from what I can tell, and I love all the food I'm eating. However, obviously due to fats have more calories per gram compared to carbs my meal sizes are smaller despite having the same caloric intake. To combat this I've upped my fibrous vegetable intake. The problem is I have become so ravenous I am literally eating a whole broccoli, half a cauliflower, and two heads of romaine hearts daily. I just seem to be getting hungrier by the day...

    WTF ?

I wouldn't say my intensity has changed that much but I upped my cals by 200 a few days ago and noticed no change in terms of my hunger level.

are you on cycle? i just think your metabolism is super high. maybe try adding in some cottage cheese or casein thru out the day? try upping the cals some more on the protein side and see if makes a difference. cutting, bulking, or maintaining?

This is the same problem I had Windex (among other problems), when I ran a keto diet. Because of the caloric density of high fat foods and my relatively low caloric requirements, I had to eat very low volume and was starving. Since it's keto, it's not like you can get away with eating tons of greens to satiate yourself. This is one big reason why it ultimately wasn't a sustainable diet for me, but I hope you get it sorted out.

We all respond differently to carbohydrates, or lack thereof.

I hate keto diets and respond terribly to them. All I can think about all day is food and when my next meal is and when I can have carbs again. I literally can't concentrate on anything but food/carbs. That and my LBM has always suffered from keto, probably b/c I haven't learned why type of keto is best for me or how often I need to carb refeed. How often are you having a refeed day?

If you're already eating a ton of fibrous veggies and drinking plenty of water I don't know what else to tell you.

Why am I not able to get away with eating tons of greens ? :S

No I am not on cycle and I am eating tons of fibrous veggies and currently drinking 7-10L of water a day.

I guess it depends on what you define as a keto diet. On a strict/true keto diet (such as the introductory period to Atkins), you wouldn't be able to eat greens indiscriminately as even those few carbs here and there add up. Generally you'd want to stay under 20g/day to induce a state of ketosis quickly.

Ah I haven't counted those carbs at all hmm I may have to re-evaluate some meal choices then. Is Ketosis not possible unless you go sub 20g of carbs ?

20g isn't a magic number but a widely accepted rule of thumb. While most green veggies are low in net carbs, they still contain a few - and a few throughout the day (especially if you're eating 'tons' / indiscriminately) add up fast and can definitely keep you from reaching a state of ketosis.

A few things that may help:
#1 - Your caloric intake should not be the same. the benefit of keto diet is that you can take in less calories but due to 2 things - the anabolic property of fat as a macronutriet and ketones causing the body to utilize fat for fuel you can lose alot of fat and retain muscle very well. More so than a traditional calorie restricted diet (or so thats the claims/thought process)
#2 - You must take in adequate % of calories from fat. Fat plays a key role in satiation. I take in an incredibly high % of my cals from fats on this diet. Anywhere from 60-80% of calores should be from fat IMO.
#3 - It takes the body time to adapt to this diet. Do NOT add veggies to try to curb hunger - sacrifice for 2-3 weeks and you will adapt and the feeling will subside. Also how long is your carb load or re-feed. I ask this because mine is 24hrs but i structure it carefully - i think it helps.
#4 - If you want to supplement just supplement with fiber - do not eat more veggies in an attempt to get more fiber.

I love this type diet. I am very carb senstaive / insulin resistant and do amazingly well on a cyclic keto diet. The results for me can in fact be jaw dropping. My keto has developed ints a combo of dipasqulae / duchaine / mcdonald / palumbo/atkins versions. I use bits and pieces from each and have come up a version that really works for me. Just like anything else if you want to really make this work optimally you need to really educate yourself on all of these type diets (bodyopus , anabolic / ckd/ atkins / palumbo) and try them. Come up with a version you are comfortable with , that makes sense , and is doable for you. Just like all diets there are interdependant responses that translate to drastic differences in body response / feeelings / results etc. This diet you are on is a good intro - work to tweek it and read up on the diets I outlined. You will pick up bits from each you may wish to incorportae just as i have.

Thank you for all the help everyone. It only took me two weeks to realize this is definitely not the diet for me. Perhaps in the future when ~10% BF and want to try and get into single digits. I Can't handle being hungry 24/7 and even going to fibrous veggies as my only carb source still wasn't enough.
