How many shakes a day?
Personally i take a weight gainer in the morning. A whey protein shake about 3 hours later. Then a whey protein shake in the afternoon. Then a weight gainer again after training. Then casein before bed.
Sums up to
About 5 shakes per day. I heard you should take 2 shakes MAXXXIMMMUMM. I exaderated that for a reason. MAX 2 shakes. Is what ive been told lately. Why are whole foods so much more anticipated. Rather than shakes, whats wrong with shakes?
How many do yall take??

Man, you sure love to start threads .... To be honest with you though, I love your energy and excitement. If you utilize it properly.... you'll do great at anything and everything you do. <---- I know that didn't answer your question... I'm too tired and going to bed... tomorrow, especially since I'm the guy who told you 2 shakes max per day

One post workout with some Waxy Maze is all I do..Although before bed I sprinkle a scoop of Casein on top of some cottage cheese and almonds, so I guess I have 1.5 shakes a day?..I know some really impressive guys like Nark, who uses an abundance of shakes when dialing down for a show- unless you are doing that- I see no reason to load up on them. I think weight gainers are a waste of time, its whey powder loaded up with a bunch of sugar and junk. I'lll wait till GBrice steps in and cleans house on this topic...
Not to be disrespectful OP, but judging by your avi- I don't think should be using weight gainers or trying to gain weight at all..Last edited by Gaspari1255; 02-23-2012 at 11:46 PM.

Ya i just want to finish out this weight gainer. I only like it because its packed with protein and carbs so its GREAT for morning and post workout. Im gonna finish it up clear out the cabinet then stick with straight lean whey and 1 post workout shake a day only. I like the idea of sprinkling casein on cottage cheese im def going to do that...

Keep in mind im not telling u protein shakes dont supply u with dEcent protein.. They do.. But whole foods have other vitamins and nutrients u wont get from shakes.. IMO u get better nutrition from whole food.. As far as for convenience factor shakes r good.. But having a variety of protein sources gives u different amino profiles.. Plus along with eating meat u also eat veggies which add additional nutrients..
And why at ur bf% wanting to cut would u think its a good idea to take weight gainer???Last edited by --->>405<<---; 02-24-2012 at 07:20 AM.

Well alot of carbs isnt something in the diet i suggested u run.. And wat kind of carbs woukd be the other question.. Carb sources and amts r very important when cutting.. Thats why i only suggested u use 3: sweet potatoes, rolled oats, brown rice.. That will give u all the carbs u need and eliminAte the possibility of u eating a bad carb thinking its ok.. Have u got ur diet dun?

There is no magical 'max' number of shakes. A gram of protein is a gram of protein, whether it comes from a shake or a chicken breast. Case closed on that. Yes, digestion is to be considered. Yes, other essential nutrients are to be considered. And yes, whole food will obviously keep you satiated much more efficiently and help with people who have a hard time controlling binge eating.
Where this 'rule' comes from is actually a misconception IMO. We see guys constantly posting up diets with a lot of whey shakes. Whey protein has an amazingly fast absorption/digestion rate (about 30 mins) and won't do much for you for any appreciable length of time. Therefore, a whey shake can hardly be considered a 'meal'. I never use straight whey, not even PWO. My shakes are always a protein blend - whey, casein, egg albumen, etc. I always add oats (for carb meals), some cottage cheese and sometimes liquid egg whites just to 'round them off'. Why not benefit from multiple amino profiles and absorption/digestion rates? Seems to only make sense IMO. I have run a diet that consisted of NOTHING but shakes for 2 weeks, and there was no noticeable difference in anything. Note I realize 2 weeks isn't very long, but still - i'm talking about every single meal - extreme.
Bottom line - have as many shakes as you want, but make them more 'meal like' by using a good protein blend (I use ON Pro Complex and Myofusion as well as ON 100% Casein), and add some whole food like I described above, if desired - but it's not necessary.
Haha, thanks brother. And I agree about weight gainers... THIS is where i'd eat real food (carbs), not all that garbage they stuff into those powders... usually tons of sugar and other crap.
x2 on this... weight gainers in any form would be the last thing on my menu if I had your level of bodyfat (again, no offense intended at all, just being honest)

Limit it to 1 shake per day IMO, and don't use it as a 'weight gainer'. i.e. make sure you fit the macros into your diet, even if you have to split a single serving into two over the course of the day.

Its rarely a case of too many shakes as opposed to too little food. I routinely have 3-4 shakes a day and have done so right up until a week prior to a contest. As long as you are getting a proper amount of real food in you I wouldnt worry about the amount of shakes. Agree with others as far as the OP staying away from Weight/Fat Gainers.
