Higher on the GI than brown if you're eating it by itself. Since most people don't do that, the GI is useless. Familiarize yourself with Glycemic Load instead.

Having said that - I wouldn't make an issue over white vs. brown. Brown is more nutritious - fiber, vitamins/minerals, etc. but strictly speaking in terms of a carb source, the differences are negligible.

    http://www.health.harvard.edu/newswe..._100_foods.htm

According to the website listed above, White Rice has a GI of 89 and Brown Rice has a GI of 50

I also noticed on that chart that there is a difference between Yams and Sweet Potatoes. Aren't they the same thing?

Not exactly, but they're closely related as far as I know.

They are part of a different genus. They can look similar but are very different in taste and texture (from my experience) although they are both tubers which a normal potato is not.

They are, I believe, a staple in Africa.

I've read if you cook your white rice so its firm, just under cooked (how I like it) because it's alittle tougher it slows down digestion making it lower GI, but as GBrice pointed out, if you are eating it with fats and protein, this will slow digestion, making it lower GI.

I brought this up in a discussion with a buddy of mine who is a trainer. Like me, he hates brown rice and said he just ate a smaller portion of white as the GI wasn't that big of a deal.

    ~Thoughts?

Agreed. I wouldn't even bother worrying about a smaller portion. Whatever works within the macro allotment for that meal will be fine.

IMO, any quality carb. By quality, I mean real food, not processed garbage.

e.g. rice, potatoes, oats, quinoa, lentils, beans, grits, cous cous, etc.

No. But that doesn't mean you should go consume all the sugar you can get your hands on either.

NEVER listen to another thing that person tells you again, re: nutrition. That's a completely idiotic statement... and this is coming from somebody (me) who aims to keep sugar intake as low as possible.

There seems to be so much conflicting information going around.... its very frustrating!!... i did a 10 weeks test e cycle and i put on a decent bit of fat gain.... it was my first cycle... i was being advised to eat 4000kcal per day which i did thinking it would all become muscle and ended up the highest bf% ive ever been...

I agree! The problem is people like to overcomplicate an otherwise relatively simple concept (dieting) by focusing on these tiny, negligible little factors instead of just focusing on the actual task at hand (being consistent, disciplined, etc.). Further, everybody wants to be an internet 'guru' and goes around parroting stuff they've read, heard from a 'bro' in the gym, etc.

More often than not, when asked to explain the advice/info they're giving, they can't, because they don't know the answer(s). They're just regurgitating shit that was probably half bs to begin with, and they likely misinterpreted most of it on top of that.

What were your stats pre cycle? What was your macro nutrient breakdown @ 4,000 cals?

4000 was probably a touch high! I can tell my ur avi that I probably have a great deal more lbm and I'm eating 4k, and 4k is a touch high for me, BUT I'm also taking t3. I'm willing to bet u could gain well and keep fat to a minimum if u knock back 500-750 cals without seeing ur actual stats. Unless ur actually like 6'5" or something lol
