    Quotable quotes from Dr Lustig:

Standing on the scale doesn’t tell you where your fat is. Visceral fat is more dangerous than sub-cutaneous fat. Read also: Body Fat – The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

TOFI – thin on the outside, fat on the inside.

Obesity is not the problem, metabolic problem is. Some obese people aren’t sick and some thin people are.

Exercise does not cause weight loss. Exercise causes muscle gain.

Sloth and Gluttony aren’t the cause of obesity because all behaviours have a biochemical basis.

“Behaviour is a stereotyped motor response to a physiological stimulus.” — Stedman’s Medical Dictionary

24:00 Lustig explains the hormones leptin and insulin and how it affects obesity and metabolic disorder.

30:00 In most people, obesity is the result of leptin resistance.

33:00 Lustig proves the hypothesis that insulin blocks leptin signalling. This causes obesity.

I'm not sure about the title but he had an initial video 4 years ago so they just called this 2.0.

thanks for breaking it down. my wife makes homemade yogurt but still the milk we buy is processed, damn now I have to buy my own cow to make yogurt! I agree with him regarding sugars being one of the biggest source of all health problems.

I watched this a long time ago. I no longer eat candy or deserts. I don't drink soda, fruit juices, or flavored beverages. I avoid to the best of my ability processed foods. I do not have any table sugar in my house. I cook 95% of the meals I eat at home. I look on the nutritional label of all the food I buy, and select the products with little or no sugar added. I even decided to avoid artificial sweeteners because I knew I would still crave the sugary taste.

Believe me, the stuff is addicting, as at first I was literally having withdrawal symptoms. After a few months though, the cravings went away.

Thanks for posting T. I was able to watch 40 min and will come back later. I too believe sugar is evil.

Wondering, what does this impact my behavior? Clearly eat less sugar therefore do we eat more fiber veggies????

    Thanks so much Tarmyg!
It took a couple days, but I do agree - this needs to be required reading for all. All of us in the gym, all parents, and anyone wanting to collect Medicare when they get to be 65!

I ended up watching another video of his and ordering his book on Amazon. This is good stuff.
In a nutshell he gave 4 tips in the second video:
    1. Avoid ALL sugar and sugar drinks. No soda, fruit juice, alcohol, or "coffee" - nothing with sugar or fructose in it.
    2. Eat fiber to blunt the effects of insulin spikes.
    3. Wait 20 minutes after your meal to see if you're REALLY hungry.
    4. Buy your sedentary time (TV, FaceBook, etc) with exercise. Meaning if you're going to watch TV for an hour, you'd have to balance it with an hour of exercise.

He said "Exercise doesn't have to be hard. It just has to be consistent and sustained".
    Pretty smart guy!

May I ask where does whey protein fit in all of this? Should we still take whey if we are skinny fat? I buy a unflavored whey isolate and add frozen strawberries to. Considering adding cinnamon for insulin sensitivity and chromium. But also dairy in itself insulinogenic. Hence more VAT fat with more insulin spikes???

Look on the label with the Nutritional Facts for the brand of whey protein that you use. Under the total carbohydrates section, the amount of sugar per serving should be listed. Just as an example, ISOPURE has a whey protein that has 0g sugar per serving. Meanwhile there are 2g of sugar in each scoop of Muscle Milk.
