Calories
I bought a box of regular oats and one box of high fiber oats. I know 1 gram of protein/carbs is equal to 4 calories and 1 gram of fat is equal to 9 calories. Both the protein and fats are the same on each type of oats but the higher fiber oatmeal has 2 more grams of carbs per serving. Yet on the boxes they have the same amount of calories? Also when I plug these in to my fitness pal how do I know my numbers aren't all jacked up? The calories I've consumed won't match up with the carbs fats and proteins. Should I not pay attention to the calories which I've been doing and just look at the p/c/f?

Are you really worried about 8 cals? Just plug it in and roll with it

No not 8 calories but I've checked other foods as well and it seems like a common problem. Let's say I eat 2 servings of oats, that's 16 calories. Those calories here and there add up. I'm just curious as to why the box wouldn't have the correct calories?

I guess they average it and don't have to meet exact macro criteria. I agree, it will add up, just use the higher end and see how you respond

I did a little research on this. Apparently food manufacturers can round up or down on calories and macro/micro nutrients. It will never be exact just close. Which I agree doesn't really matter but it would be nice to dial your diet in perfectly.

Nutrition labels are +/- 20% which is allowed so just have to be a bit dynamic.

Same thing as regular oats without an added sweetener....check the ingredients. All oats are high fiber.

Government allows companies to have a slight variance in total calories or macros, a small amount. some will say has 2 carbs but 0 sugar 0 fiber.
