my doc is an idiot
I already have high estrogen and estrodial levels.. and he prescribes arimidex at .0725 mg which essentially does nothing... my insurance would pay for it if he would prescribe dosages of 1mg.. and it would only cost me 40 bucks for 90 day supply.. to get it at the stupid dosage he wants would cost me 300 a month.. wtf...

Man, what is it with the docs in our state?
I don't get why your doc just won't make a minor adjustment so that you're not paying through the nose.

Challenge him. Ask him to provide you with the evidence, or at least the thought process, associated with using that level as a therapeutic dose for your circumstances. Be ready to offer rationale for why you think a higher dose is warranted. Print up evidence and discuss the findings. If you're able to cite clinical studies you may persuade him to change his mind.
If not, is shopping for a new doc an option?

I did.. his response was that higher doses are for people with cancer.. i even showed him the papers that show .5-1mg to reduce estrogen 50% and he didn't want to here it...
and yes i'm shopping for a new doc

he's a semi-retired plastic surgeon who decided to start doing HRT .. for the most part he knows what he's doing.. just when it comes to high estrogen levels he's brain dead... even my pharmicist the first time i filled the super low dosage came out and asked me why the dosage was so low... the pharm said that even .15 would have been better than what he wrote for me

Does he also tell you which compounding pharmacy to use?

a low doseage of arimidex is actually all you need and i actually would prefer to take it daily and at low doses but like the op stated the insurance wont pay because of it...totally whack...yes .15 would be close to an ideal dose for ed that would be just a lil over 1mg per week

this is from wikipedia.. but i have seen it posted elsewhere...
Study data currently suggest that dosages of 0.5 mg to 1 mg a day reduce serum estradiol by about 50% in men, which differs from the typical reduction in postmenopausal women. However the reduction may be different for men with grossly elevated estradiol (clinical data are currently lacking).

Sorry to hear that was his response. The answer to "why not a higher dose" has nothing to do with what is given to cancer patients. That's a bullshit answer because there's a wide range of doses given to cancer patients, just like there's a range of doses for TRT patients, and other patients. The correct repose would have detailed what the risks are of using too high a dose versus using too low a dose. Too much AI results in lower estrogen levels. The risks of lower levels of estrogen are minimal, especially in the short term. Bone density issues are about the worst of it. The risks of estrogen levels that are too high FAR outweigh the risks of too low. If they're too high it makes TRT ineffective and puts you at risk for gyno.
I mean, WTF? It's easy to make a decision about which side to err on in that risk matrix. Tell him to pull his head out of his ass and increase the frequency of your blood test if he's legitimately concern about going overboard with the AI dose.

hey puttbulldad - just bumping this up to see what happened to your compounded arimidex situation? The reason I ask is that I was yesterday prescribed something similar, being .1mg arimidex daily. I am looking into compounding places here (he gave me three to look into), but like you said, they are very $$ since they have to basically buy the pills, then compound them. No insurance with them as well.
I followed-up with his office asking if he can just prescribe me the 1mg pills which I can get through insurance and then split and take 1/4 every 3rd day or so, but am awaiting his response...
