    Lab Corp Adjusts T Range

My Doc emailed me this morning letting me know that Lab Corp changed their Serum Testosterone reference interval for Adult Males.

    It used to be: 193 - 740 ng/dl

    It's now: 348 - 1197 ng/dl

Significant difference in both the bottom and top of the assay. This means more men will be diagnosed clinically low causing health insurance to kick in which is fantastic news for all of us!

It's interesting to see how they raised the top range. I always thought the 740 was low anyway. My Lab Co uses 1100 as their top and 340 for their bottom and my Lab Co specializes in hormone testing.

is this nationwide i'm guessing? I'm pretty sure my doctors office uses Labcorp, but they said "normal" was from 280-800 ... not sure about the 280... it was 2 something... I think it was 280 though.

Just had mine done 9/7 and they were still using 193-740 for age 50+ and 249-836 for under 50. Glad it went up to more reasonable levels.

Probably someone at Lab Corp who is a decision maker finally got hit with low T himself and had an epiphany! Better for us. I had bw done on 9/13 and they were still using 193-740ng/dl. Probably take a little bit for them to implement the change nationwide.

That IS great news. When I first got tested a while back I was a little under 400 and was told I was fine. I didn't know the difference so just accepted that as fact. The new range could have saved me two years of my life, but I'm glad that others will now benefit.

good to know..my recent labcorp ranges (9/8/11) were serum: 249-836ng/dL and free: 6.8-21.5pg/mL for 40 year old male. i wonder if they will adjust the free range sometime.

so long as insurance will cover it..

    also, gh levels and thyroid???

its all a big issue really..

Funny how if a woman needs estrogen while and after going through menopause no one bats an eye... but if a man needs test to be normal everyone freaks and claims he's a juicer..

Yes this is good news. However, 90% of the medical community still doesnt know how to properly administer TRT. Doh...

Just got some more BW back today. Note on it that effective 10/10/11 the T Serum range will be 348-1197 ng/dl as GD stated above.

Good, actually nice to see them use real averages.

My father in law is on NO therapy and in his late 50's and his natural serum Test is 900-1000!
