Taking our red blood cells isn't going to help platelets, right? But that is what the aspirin helps with, isn't it?
platelets prevent clotting, yes aspirin will help. basically aspirin thins your blood or it lowers the viscosity of your blood, it doesn't reduce RBC and WBC, and it doesn't increase platelets, it just lowers the viscosity of your blood.

yes thats the idea, and of course to prevent clots from forming.

interesting ....i had spoken to a phamacist lately because i have been taking a lot of ibuprofen lately and was concerned about liver values..i was considering switching to aspirin...she was quite insistent that liver issues would be from acetaminaphen and was quite comfortable endorsing my ibu use even moreso than her fear of me if i were to be using aspirin and then were to be cut/injured..i thought i remembered some1 posting in this forum about ibuprofen usage and to be careful with the liver...

B/P is high 170/90 and blood test showed high red count. Would the high red count cause b/p to be high? On med's for b/p but it has increased lately.

yes thick blood will cause high BP, give blood ASAP, you don't want your BP to be that high for too long.

JP, the pharmacist is correct, aspirin does have more negative effect on the liver than ibu, advil and aleve. aleve has less negative affects on the liver but a little harder on the stomach. there is no perfect pain killer, its always has something negative!

As posted, you can get a script from the doctor.

Increased iron could be resulted from hemochromatosis, or from being a genetic carrier of the disease. I highly recommend that while everyone is reviewing their CBC panel, make sure you run a ferritin lab, and other iron related panels (TIBC, UIBC, iron serum and saturation) to make sure this disease is not part of your genetic disposition. If it is, then it will give you that much more of a reason to want to donate blood.

I use a lot of OTC pain medicines myself.

Acetaminophen (Tylenol/APAP) is stressful on the liver. Just a small usage before BW can send my liver readings all over the place. Ibuprofen/Advil & NSAIDs in general can raise blood pressure, which I've also experienced first hand. I've also read somewhere that instances of heart attack & stroke are increased with consumption of Ibuprofen & other NSAIDs like Celebrex.

I vary my usage depending on symptoms. For headaches, Extra Strength Excedrin (Aspirin/Acetaminophen) works well for me. For muscle and/or body aches I go with Advil or Aleve (Naproxen Sodium).

problem with donating blood is that you should be truthful when they have you fill out their questionere. there is a few questions on there that would disqualify you if you were to tell them you were taking aas (if that is applicable in your case)

i let the afghans bleed me every three months, and they don't ask any questions... period!

some bleed themselves. i've never stuck a needle into my vein intentionally, but i guess it would be easy enough.

"Have you, in the past ten years, used a needle to inject any drug not prescribed by a doctor?"

    That question? Ugh.

Just donated today. My hemo count was 17.8, and when I first sat down my bp was 139/95. After finishing the questioner, I asked if she could take my bp again, 127/78 second time around. Usually around 110/65ish. I guess this is something I need to start keeping an eye on since starting TRT.

Hey Johnny, did you have your rbc checked again after donating? How's your BP?
