    Thinning Hair

    Hi guys,

I posted a while back on preventing baldness, and, as it turns out, I think my hair has been thinning on top for about 5 years or so. It is not noticeable to anyone except me and occasionally my wife, and I could be making a mountain over a molehill, but I'd rather get the jump on this vs. wait until it is noticeable.

At any rate, I'm headed to the dermatologist in a couple of weeks to get a full body scan for skin cancer, etc., and my plan is to talk to them about thinning hair prevention as well. Since I'm on TRT and I understand some hair loss prevention treatments have some scary effects on libido, I thought I'd ask here for any input. Thoughts out there?

    Thanks!

I've been watching my hair thin for years but at 50+ I still have more than most. I know of OTC treatments but have never tried anything at this point I am getting more interested. Please share what you find....

    Will do.

Has anyone undergone or know about hair thinning treatments? Want to be sure I'm a little bit armed before the doc starts handing out what she wants to do.

I have been buying Minoxidil 15% with Azeliac Acid for years and it has stopped the thinning right in it's tracks. I even have new growth up front. I actually have more hair today then i did 12 years ago. The 15% is getting harder to find because the FDA but you still can. the nice thing is now i just take it one a day.

Yeah the finasteride scares me in terms of its potential libido damaging effects. I do use some anti-dandruff shampoo already plus a great conditioner.

LOL at the shave bald... I'm not balding here, just thinning. I'm trying to avert balding before it happens (if it would at all).

Talk to my dermatologist when I was in for my yearly bodyscan about thinning hair. She said that I don't look to have thinning hair but that it is likely that my hair is thinner than it was, say, 10 years ago because men's hair will thin over time even if it doesn't bald.

However, she did say to go ahead and start using Rogaine if I want almost as a preventative as many people like it. Of course, that means I would need to use it 2X a day, bleh, but there apparently are no side effects. Has anyone used Rogaine? From what I can read, the only thing to know is that you can shed some hair initially which will then grow back thicker in a few months.

Used Rogaine did not work for me. Only thing that worked as one person said is a razor, now I have no hair loss and love it. A bald head is great!

Agreed gdevine... I don't think there is a risk there with Rogaine, however.

I'm really on the fence with this as I'm not really *thin* yet just a little bit *thinner*. Occasionally I get a tingly feeling in my scalp now, too... not sure if that is thinning. At any rate, I think Rogaine would be safe due to it not containing Finasteride (I think that's in Propecia only).
