Vitamin D ?
Why is vitamin D such a big deal, what is it about taking test that makes people's vitamin d levels low?
Thanks

No, most people are just deficient in it and low levels causes many health problems.
Vitamin D3 is a hormone believe it or not.
There have been recent published studies that reported that when men optimize their vitamin D levels it can increase natural Testosterone production by up to 25%!

Hi Hev. There have been many posts on the benefits of vit D here. Do a search and you find some interesting ones for sure. The article I'm attaching pretty much sums it all up. Long read but worthwhile. Hope it helps:

Great read as usual kelkel...and for anyone that hasn't been there endojournals .org is chock full of studies related to testosterone levels . If you have the time and patience to read clinical journals you will definitely learn something and have valid sources to share with your doc.

Already there kel...doc recommended 1000iu of D about a month ago...i was at 23 on the range of 30-100. After researching here and elsewhere, bumped myself to 10,000 IU D3 daily plus my multi, so up close to 11k. Had another draw done this morning, almost as anxious to see that level as I am my test scores. I definitely feel better though.

Vitamin D is a big deal because it is a hormone
Clearly we are all biased towards making a big deal out of hormones

Since testosterone is produced in the body by testicles (via signals from the pituitary gland) would a person with variocelles benefit from vitamin D intake?
I have been taking 5k iu of vitamin D everyday for the past 2 weeks and I do feel a bit energetic, but still lack a decent sex drive.

Ohh. I'll still take the vitamin D. But I am looking into getting my variocelles fixed. I should be seeing another urologist soon and hopefully he will reccomend and get the ball rolling on variocelles microsurgery.
EDIT: I brought up getting my variocelles getting fixed by surgery to my old urologist and he reccomended not do it, and only get it done if I'm trying to have a kid and can't do so because of low sperm. I told him the I read that my testosterone levels will go up if i get it done and he didn't believe it. So my hope is that this new urologist I see next month will be better informed.Last edited by dave900; 10-11-2012 at 07:41 PM.

Great progress indeed, within 4-6 weeks from now you'll be in the upper range.

Very good progress!! I was in the same boat. Currently running 5,000 D3 5 days a week and 50,000 D2 twice weekly.
Glad this is working for you, SD! Nothing like seeing good results

life extension foundation recommends...
all adults take between 5,000 iu and 10,000 iu of vitamin d3.
there is extensive research on the importance of this "vitamin". and gd is correct, it is actually a hormone.
there is also research that indicates taking vitamin k helps the body properly use the vitamin d.
i personally am taking 40,000 iu of vit d3 along with 8400 mcg of vit k.
