Coverage
Sup guys
I just found out my pharmaceutical coverage is changing from BCBS to Caremark/CVS.
With my BCBS plan i am paying $10 for 200mg of test cyp and nothing for Adex 1mg 30 pills. I also found out BCBS was going to cover my upcoming HCG prescription for $45bucks.
Now with Caremark/CVS in effect Jan 1st i am not sure if Test Cyp/Adex/HCG is covered, or covered but i will have to pay more.
Anyone uses Caremark for TRT and can confirm that they do/don't cover TRT?
thanks for the info

I use Caremark and both my test cyp and Adex have been covered for the past 10 months. I don't know if all employer plans administered by them are run the same way however. Good luck - the Adex can be painfully expensive without coverage if you want to use the "name brand" drug.

IMO, HCG is not very expensive so worst case you could pay for it out of pocket without much issue.

I have Blue Cross and my test cyp is covered with prescription, but I have to get it at Rite Aid, $15 for a 10ml vial 200mg. Generic. The mail order service has not had it for well over six months! And the girl at Rite Aid warned it was getting harder to find. Syringes cost MUCH more for 13 than 100!

I haven't used Caremark, but I've heard bad things about them.
The fact that you're switching over, however, might be very different than people who were trying to start something and trying to get it approved by insurance.
No sense beating yoruself up needlessly though... I imagine you can't change any of this so id wait and see.

I was finally able to register in the Caremark website and under my plan generic test cyp 200 mg is $5 , Adex 30 pills 1mg is $5 , but HCG which is also covered is $100 bucks, ouch!
Can we discuss insurance coverage prices here?

There are a number of good research sites that sell 5000 unit HCG vials for under $25 and the quality is excellent...pharmacy grade.
Put's things into perspective does it not?

Yes, you can discuss legit pharmacy pricing here...even research sites as it's out there already...but really good to see you question

My wellness doc finally called in HCG in to CVS. CVS tells me they have to transfer the RX to Caremark special pharmacy. Then Caremark special pharmacy has to approve, then get pre-auth from the doc, and finally if all is well it will get covered.
Wow what a pain in the a*s.

There it is folks, Caremark denied HCG today. They will not cover it for hypogonadism. I am not upset , i knew this was going to happen. Even with the Prior Auth it was denied.
They told me the only way they might cover it if my doc sends the a letter of necessity, but even then it will probably still get denied.
Called my local compounding pharmacy and they are selling HCG 10,000 iu for $190, so f that.
Maybe it's time to think of the exit strategy. :/

That's a shame that insurance won't cover it. But, don't give up. Lots of people take the hCG matter into their own hands...for a quarter of that price.

I get it, but how do you know for sure it's legit and not made from a horse?

I'd at least try the letter of necessity. It's no skin off your back if they say no...

So that's that, my doctor's appeal to Caremark was denied, so i am shit out of luck at least for the year until i can switch my insurance from wife's back to mine.

That's a shame that this was such a hassle. Strange that you were denied coverage with a legit rx. Hope it all works out. And at $190, which is nuts, I'm sure other options will work out.

Caremark cares not for our testicles.

You can still buy HCG without insurance. The prescription is still good from your doctor. You'll just want to shop around for the best price at this point.

I know HRT, but it's the principle , I pay $10 bucks for T, and that's amazing, why do I have to pay more for HCG ? My insurance is already expensive. This debate can go on forever, but I am pissed that some person in Middletown New York made this decision for me.
